Has anyone else noticed...
Has anyone else here noticed that after ~2k miles, the addiction factor of the '8 increases by an order of magnitude? Maybe I'm just special, but my '8 just keeps getting smoother and better. Not that it wasn't smooth to begin with, but as I'm passing 2500 miles, everything seems to work better (and work better together) now. I'm used to a car breaking-in, so to speak, but the '8 has broken-in more than I'm used to. The transmission, in particular, is like butter (meant in a good way). I can't imagine this car improving any more. If it does, I'll be amazed. And if it doesn't, I'll still be a very happy camper. Is this making any sense, or is it too late in the day? :D

Sounds like you're on your 2nd Manhattan, but I agree. (BTW, I've had 2 and thinking about another) I've only put about 400 mi on mine, but as I get more and more used to the clutch and light touch of the accellerator, it just gets smoother and smoother.
Nice! Zoom, Zoom!

Aaaarrrggghhh!!! This is killing me! I have just about 3k on my car, and haven't been able to drive it for a couple of weeks. One week I was sidelined with a bad leg, this week I'm up and about but still limping, with my left leg still not up to speed (can't use the clutch). Next week I'll be out of the wife's car (auto trans) and back into the 8; can't wait! Until then, all I have is this forum!

i just broke 1000 today. I'm just know getting used to it all. I've noticed that the faster you throw the gears and clutch the smoother it is, of you take your time it feels much sloppier. So therefore, I've been driving it harder

I'm with you on that. I'm actually looking forward to replacing these tires, which is a first for me. I hate these stock Bridgestones -- the tramlining tires from hell. I just can't, in good conscience, throw out tires that have most of their tread left, or I'd have replaced them at the outset. But when they finally do wear out (soon, I hope), rest assured I won't be putting Bridgestones back on. I'll probably go with Pirellis.

^Umbra, Racing beat recommends 1000 miles. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm They are the authority on rotaries... but they also say change oil every 6 months 7.5k miles. Just wanted to give you another break-in option.
Anyway, was stuck all day in a newer rental 5 spd miata with low mileage. That thing was fun but it was so noisy, weak, shifter was notchy, and had a boring interior. I admire the miata more after 4 separate occasions with it but jumping into the 8 at the end of the day felt soo sweeet. And mind you this was only 8 hours without the 8. I usually have withdrawl after 2 days or so.

Somehow I always feel more "at one" with a car after I've given it its first wax job. :p

I just passed 2000 miles last weekend. And yes, the car gets smoother. I followed the Racing Beat 2k miles break-in. The WOT and beeps at redline really make me smile these last several days :D
I have a 1st gen Miata and still love it. It is a different kind of fun from the RX-8. I am in the process of selling it though
