Hatred toward 8's???

not to mention some of the defensive 350Z and g35 owners who happen to be immature. They read unfavourable comparative reviews and get really childish about it.....You love your car right? who cares what critics say.
Not knocking those cars at all, they are great cars. But the critic reviews seem to favour the 8 when compared and some take it personally. :D

Most car forum flame kings and fake *** car enthusiast only go by 0-60 and 1/4 mile times--and UH has the best and worst of the car world. The way I look at it is that haters need to talk up when they talk down--maybe it was some breezy that you pissed off and besides, I love haters; because if it weren't for haters you wouldn't know when you are doing good. I'd be scared if I never had anybody hating on my ride. "They frown when you up, and smile when you down" -- UGK Diamonds and Wood

I'm kind of an enigma in my neighborhood (which is great). There's not a "dad" in the neighborhood that drives a sports car, jams with the neighborhood rock band, and has as much fun as I do.
In the neighborhood are at least 10 boys between 15 and 22 years old and they are ALL ricers. And all of them are INSANE over my car - when it's parked in the driveway, they all come over and drool over it. I've let every one of them with a license drive it, and every one of them loves it.
So, last weekend, one of the neighborhood boys has a new "rice boy" buddy over with a badly-modified Civic (DX model, automatic, wheels, crappy aluminum wing, etc. Oh my, what a shitbox), and when I rolled by yelled "Hey, what's with the slow car?" Well, I just braked to a stop, hopped out of the car and walked over. His buddies are saying "Hey, don't be such an ***, this is our neighbor" and he's still all swagger, and says "Yeah, but I hear that car isn't all that."
I just said to him, "Care to take a ride with me and find out?" I should note at this point, that I've taken most of the neighborhood "ricers" for a serious ride - there's a forest preserve near my house with very twisty roads, plus an expressway ramp that I can take at about 55 mph, generating insane cornering loads and scaring the crap out of any passenger. Add to that that I'm a Bondurant and Skip Barber school alum, and well, you get the picture.
So, the boys that know me all tell him to hop in the car, which he does. I tell him to put his seatbelt on, and he gives me this attitudinal look and says "I never wear them." I look across at him and say "If you don't you're an idiot. Put it on." He puts it on insolently, and we slowly, calmly motor off, first headed to the freeway on ramp. I am intentionally driving very gently and smoothly all the way there (about 2 miles) and as we are out about a mile, he says "so where's this ride you promised me? I still think this is a dog". I just smile and keep driving.
The on-ramp is a 270 degree increasing radius, flat (nearly no bank) sweeper (for you Chicago folks, the ramp from westbound Lake Cook road to southbound Rte 53/290/355) - the approaching road has a 55 mph speed limit as does the road you wind up on (with no traffic to merge with as you are entering the beginning of a highway. I approach it going 55 mph and then just bend into it, never slowing down - as the curve begins to tighten, he braces up and says "You're not going to brake, are you? ****, man you're going to kill us!" - well, I don't say a word and as the curve tightens, he's bracing, putting his foot on the imaginary brake, etc. Scared to death - and as the road begins to straighten, I notice that there's a full mile of wide open highway in front of us - not a car, so I downshift to 3rd, pull the redline, shift to 4th, and head for redline again, lifting as the car passed though 115 mph. His eyes are the size of saucers.
At this point we are very quickly approaching the next exit which is where I head off to the forest preserve, so I haul the car down from nearly 100 mph to 40 as hard as the brakes will let me without getting into the antilocks, then steer off, and gently motor to the forest preserve. At this point, he's now dead silent.
We go zooming around my favorite roads for a few minutes - power slides, steering with the throttle, some improbably fast and tight turns - he's flying all over the place trying to hold on for dear life.
Then we gently motor back, and at that point, he apologizes for being a jerk.
I drop him off with his buddies, and as he hops out, he shakes my hand and says "Wow. Nice car. Nice driving too." My neighbor boys all just break down laughing. The RX-8's front wheels are coated with a fresh bit of brake dust and the exhaust is pinging from the heat.
Then I head off and finish my errands.
Most of these idiots only rat on it because they don't know. I find the best defense is a nice offense. If challenged, disarm and offer to take them for a ride.

I've had mostly good reactions, including a guy hanging out the rear window of an SUV at 60mph... during a thunderstorm... to give me two thumbs up
But I also just had two guys in a pickup scream SOMEthing unpleasant about the car at me as I went by. Startled the heck outa me, as I don't normally have total strangers screaming obscenities at me when I'm just cruising along, minding my own business.
I agree that winning all the comparison reviews against faster and more expensive cars isn't going to make us many friends.

Yeah--it all goes back to alot of these folks are fake *** poseurs that get all their info from their magazine subscriptions--going straight to the 0-60 times. They can kick rocks. Good job on proving the RX8 to that little punk.

I've only had mine for ten days but I'm 2 for 2 at the gas pump. Two fill-ups, two complete strangers walking over to drool. One guy's driving his '72 Vette and does a double take when he spots the front strut tower bar while I'm checking the oil. Wanted to know if I added it. "Nope," I reply casually, "it's stock."
The note-writing idiot was just over-compensating, as others have said. Pin it over your desk or someplace, it was a compliment in disguise.
Speaking of those over-compensating hecklers, mpt_yellow_rx8, yellow is best left to us fairies! If they'd said that to me I'd have replied with a big, "Thanks!" :D

I am an old fart and I find it amazing that young girs will actually approach me in parking lots to ask about the car -- or go on and on about it in front of their boyfrieends. It might be a chick car as the seem interested in buying one.

I dunno, this didn't really get me mad, but... WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!
On a different note, as I was going through my neighborhood, a 8 or 9 year old boy waved and me and yelled, "nice car!" Im pretty sure that kid knew more about cars than the idiot who put that ticket on my car! :p
Anything stupid like this happen to anyone else~?!

I was driving up I 91 a few days ago, taking my ride for a ride, since I've been neglecting her... anyhow, I was in the middle lane doing between 65-70. I decide to pass a few cars and went from 65 to about 85... so, I was enjoying this speed, hitting about 90. I noticed a BIG *** pickup behind me, about 100 feet away... this **** gets on my ***... now, I'm doing about 90, so I pass the last car and pull back into the middle lane... well this guy, who's driving a full size chevy, pulls into the middle lane and slows back down to about 65-70... so, about a minute later, I pass him agian... guess what he does? gets on my *** again... I decided to let this jerk go ahead, as I was being responsible that day...
I laughed at this guy a few months back that was driving a pimped out saturn... I got off the exit ramp that goes onto another highway, this ramp is on an incline, with a very sharp curve... anyhow, rice boy is on my *** (again, I was doing about 75) so I decided to "slow down" a bit just to **** him off... my girl was in the car and she was laughing... he had no where to go, and since he followed me off the ramp, I decided to punch the car and went from 65 to 80 on the ramp... he tried to follow me, but he had no chance on the curve... my 8 just went on its way...
Also, I passed a cobra on the highway... she was doing about 60... go off my exit, she pulls behind me out of no where, and since the exit leads to a 2 lane express way, she nails the cobra and passes me... I'm no idiot, the cobra is faster at accelerating, but I think the lady got the wrong idea when I passed her on the highway... BUT SHE WAS DOING 60!!!
I love my 8... :D

Classic stories guys. So far I have had 2 good reactions, one from a cop to was pacing me, and gave me the thumbs up, and the other was a man who was probably in his 40's, I was prepping to back out of a space and I looked over and there he was, he gave the car a good once over and nodded, I smiled back and said thanks, waved and went on my way.
Oh. I did have some redneck in a pickup truck rev at me, but I was busy talking to my girlfriend, so I didn't pay him any attention.
