Head Room?

Hi, I'm new. The RX-8 has caught my eye, and I was wondering what kind of head/interior room do these things have? The reason I ask is that I am 6'7", and these things matter to those of us who are freakshow sized. For the record, my current daily driver is a Saturn sedan, so I can do compact cars.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

The seat goes back quite far, so I think leg room might be somewhat ok. You will probably have to recline the seat pretty far back to get enough head room. I would imagine its going to be a very tight fit. Give it a try though, the 8 is a very nice car for the money.

If you have long legs you should be fine. The sunroof however takes up some headroom. I have short legs and the sunroof, the only issues are when I wear a helmet or need a haircut

I'm 6 feet and I still didn't found the perfect position to drive. The steering doesn't tilt that mutch so I have my arm too high when it stay on top off the steering, if it could go 1 inch to 2 inch lower it would be perfect. I owned for 2 months now.

Just go and test drive it.

im 6'5", and i find it comfortable. i wish the steering wheel could tilt a little more.
of course, it COULD be bigger, and sometimes i think i might look silly climbing out of it, but as far as headroom goes, i dont have a problem.

The 8 has more headroom than it looks like. I'm 6-3 and have no problems and plenty of head room to spare.

I'm 6'5" and i fit fine eventhough some say that i am pretty much in the backseat when im driving. However whenever i am in the 8 i always wonder about which 4 full size adults they used to say that they all could fit at once because its not happening when im driving. I wanted a 350z but couldnt fit in that so it made my decision to get the 8 real easy.

I'm about 6'5 / 6'6 and I have to recline my seat quite a bit in order to comfortably fit. (I do have a sunroof though...)

I think it's possible for someone your height to fit in an RX-8 but it really comes down to your particular body; long legs? big upper body?
I would just suggest heading down to a dealership and trying to go for a test drive...only real way to know.

Exactly. I am shorter than the tall'uns here, only 6ft, but I have a very long torso for my height (29" inseam, meaning I have the same length torso as my best friend who's 6-7 and has a 36" inseam). I simply can't fit in an '8 with a sunroof, so I didn't get one. I still have to do a dramatic "head tuck" to get in and out of the car without smashing my brain all over the A-pillar... And come to think of it, I have to do the same head tuck to simply grab the door handle to close an open door when sitting in the driver seat (with the seat height cranked most of the way down). If I crank the seat height up to the maximum, I will rub my hair against the headliner when the seat is raked to an angle that gives good access to the wheel and shifter, and my hair is very, very short.

Ultimately you have to get in the car and see for yourself. No manner of opinion here can replace a simple trip to your Mazda dealer to get your own answer.

Be sure you try one with cloth seats and without a sunroof, the leather and sunroof eat up space. Also, you can lower the butt end of the seat bottom, that might help. The wheel does not telescope, however, so I could imagine it might seem far away once you've got the seat set up right. I may be wrong though, I'm 5'11" and the wheel is a lot closer to me than in many cars.

I'm 6'4" and I honestly don't think I would fit if I was any taller. I have the seat all the way back and reclined and I have to keep my hair short or it will rub the ceilling. (I do have a sunroof though, with cloth interior). You can also forget about anyone ever sitting behind you.

The other interesting thing is I have to be carefull or I will hit my side getting in and out of the car.

All that being said I have the driver position dialed in and it is very comfortable for me to drive.

Don't flame me for saying this and I do own an 8. You may want to wait to see what the upcoming Mazdaspeed 3 is like and then compare the two unless of course you are a rotary diehard.

No flame... But I highly doubt that the MS3 will be on the same level as the RX8. The 3 is not, and will never be, a sports car or an almost-sports car (take your pick of the previous two to describe the RX8), if for no other reason than it will be driven from the wrong end of the car.

It may be faster in a straight line, though, so if that's your only gauge of a car, by all means wait for it (if there's a MS dealer near you, which may not be the case). It is also going to be a more practical daily-driver by far, especially if you live anywhere that sees snow. I'm guessing it will get better mileage, too.

I'm just about 5'10". My RX8 has a moon roof which limits the headroom a bit.
In the morning, I think I maybe about quarter of an inch taller, so the top of my head (hair) will just touch the ceiling. However, it is perfectly okay when I drive in the afternoon after a long day of work.
I wish I could move the seat a litter further back so there was more headroom, but all the track driving experience made me like to sit closer to the steering wheel and more up-right. This way I have more control on the steering wheel. It is really too bad that the steering is not telescopic.

OK so I know I just reincarnated this thread from the dead, but I thought that I would add my thoughts to it anyway.

At about 6', 0.5", my HAIR seems to just barely rub on the ceiling. I'll admit that it almost seems MORE annoying then if my head was PLANTED in the ceiling! I've tried reclining the chair to make a lil lee-way for the headroom, but then I start to feel like a G. (No offenese anyone).

I'd have to say that of EVERYTHING about the car included, it is my ONE and only gripe that I've noticed in the 4 days I've owned this car. I don't think I noticed the problem when I test drove it because of 2 reasons...first off, I was test driving, so I think I was a lil too excited just to get behind the wheel and take her for a spin....and second, since it was only I test drive, I don't think I completely and properly adjusted the seat...and simply just slouched down for the test drive.

Just minute differences, but I thought I'd at least add to, considering how this one factor still doesn't effect my thoughts on the rotary marvel.
