Question heater noise

is it normal when you are running just the floor vents for the windshield defroster fans to run very loudly when in setting 3 or 4? I cant tell much difference between just floor and blend. If i irun the heat at just setting 2 it is relitively quiet.

thanks
eric

you should only be hearing the A/C compressor noises. If it sounds the same as "A/C" then it is normal. If it is worse, then you might want to have it looked at.

the AC is not on it is only 39 degrees here. It is like the defroster is running when it is not supposed to. Is the floor heat mode loud to anyone else?

let me try this again...when you select feet only with the logicon, the a/c turns on. read the manual.

that seems very strange. why even have a AC light if it is going to come on automaticly anyway? my PT did that but only for defrost mode. how do you turn the AC off then? I dont think that is the noise.

There is no separate defroster fan - just one fan for interior ventilation, and ducting to direct it to the windshield, floor, vent, or combinations. The sound will change depending on what outlet(s) you've selected, but again it's just the one fan.

Gordon

There isn't a separate defroster - you only have one interior heating/ventilation system. From the ONE fan, there are ducts going to the defroster vents, the dash vents, and the floor vents. There are flaps that control the distribution of air - if you set it to defrost only, then doors/flaps in the ducts close off the dash and floor vents. If you set the system to floor only, then the doors close off the defroster and dash vents. Make sense?

Do you mean the air conditioning, as in does the a/c run while in floor only mode?

Regards,
Gordon

I have the same issue as Eric. When I turn my system to floor mode with the fan above the 1 setting, there is a loud sound that comes from the defrost area above the dash. It is not the sound of the AC compressor. It is the sound of air seemingly being blown at high velocity through a small openning. Do the rest of you have quiet fan operation in this mode?

The sound you are hearing should just be the one fan blowing air into the car. Then the ducts tell the air where to go by using the selector on the dash. The air is coming into the car via the vents just above the hood and in front of the windshield by the wipers. You will hear the sound coming from the forced air through that region before it is duct to the floor or where ever. Hope this helps.

Due to design, it is just loud. Probably my biggest complaint, which isn't much. It is what it is...

I think I know what rieskame is talking about. On every other setting (vent only, vent/floor, def/floor and defrost), the air flow seems signifigant, but on floor only mode... especially with the fan on 3 or 4, it seems there is air being blown to the defroster area... I have the same problem. In all other modes/positions... it seems on setting 3 or 4 you get a nice stiff breeze... but in floor only mode... the rush of air coming from the floor vents seems mighty weak and it seems as if soe of the airflow is directed at the windshield.... like a flap is stuck. To keep warm, I usually have the seat heaters going and my airflow set to vent/floor.

Never really paid any attention to this till the temps got into the single digits (F not C). BY the way.... I was planning on putting up my baby for the winter months, but I'm addicted to the seat warmers that my other car doesn't have. :D

i know this is an old thread, but did anyone ever settle this issue? i just noticed that when my vents are set to floor only, it blows through the dash vents also and it's mighty loud at 3 or 4.

Well it got a little chilly here earlier in the week and I used the heater for the first time. It was very loud on the 3-4 range. Much louder than I would have anticipated.

i guess i just find it weird that when you set the vent to "floor only," it's blowing harder out of the dash.

That was one of the first things I noticed when I used my heater for the first time. I was thinking one of the doors that directed the airflow in the dash was messed up or sticking.
