Hello! New to the board and this is my first rotary.

First off i want to say, nice board, i was lurking for the past few days to find a good forum and i finally found one. You guys are very reasonable and helpful to one another which is a plus in my book. I traded a modded 2k2 Maxima with bolt ons for the Rx-8. The RX-8 is a blast to drive! Owned 3 Z's ('80,'89TurboZ, '94TTZ StageIII) in the past and once i had the Maxima i had to have another rear wheel drive sports car. I tested many and wasn't impressed with the new 350Z, as much as i love Z cars, i dislike the look of the new 350. The Rx-8 sold me on the first test drive!

It is so much of a pure sports car, light weight, nimble, and good looking, and decent power to boot!

Looking forward to being here and being part of the fam! I got a 2k5 RX-8 6-speed with the xenon package/fog light package. Please inform me on the good, the bad and the ugly on the RX-8. Thanks!

Hey DailyDriver welcome!

Good choice! My family is a bunch of Z nuts. My dad has a 91 300ZX, a 1969 Datsun Roadster, and an 83? 300Z. My mom has a new black on black 350Z roadster. My sister has a 91 300Z, and a 1974 260Z show car. My brother has a 92 Turbo 300ZX.

They call me the black sheep of the family......I thought about buying the 350Z also, but the 8 IMHO is a much more fun car! Enjoy!

Thanks guys....owned this car since Monday, and i am developing a love for this car! Its so fun! I wish i was out of my break in period , i only been to 8500 a few times, been shifting at 5 and under. This car is a blast, so many people just stare, so many people turn there heads, its awesome!

First hour of ownership and i got 5 compliments and a bunch of stares, owned the Maxima for 2 years and 4 months and got the same number of compliments.LOL!

Oh my color is the real bright silver, forgot what Mazda calls it, but its beautiful in appearance! I love the colors chosen by Mazda, they look good on the RX-8!

The curse is highly overrated. Just like black cats and Friday the 13th.

Welcome...

Break-in properly, fully warm-up the engine, check oil regularly, and don't be afraid to go to the redline...and it will give you many years of enjoyment.

Welcome. I like how you summed it all up in that one line.

I would avoid hitting the redline until you have at least hit 2~3K miles on it.

^ That is going to be a challenge

Here is a quick list of the good, bad, ugly:

Good: unique engine, unique body style, comfortable seating for 4, balanced handling, excellent brakes, blah blah blah I think you already know this. See "little things" sticky thread: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/little-things-67045/

Bad: So-so mileage, some members have minor interior rattles, especially in cold weather. Some have experienced excessive transmission noise.

Ugly: um.... i'm thinking hard on this one

16,500 on my 8 and here is how I score it:

Looks - 10.0
Fun Factor - 10.0
Power - 8.5
Handling - 10.0
Reliability - 9.8
Maintenance - 9.0
Build Quality - 8.9

Only Problems I can think of is people having flooding problems. It has flood once on me. Not abig deal though. and the rattles. I got those especially in cold weather. And Rust in my break assembly that will not go away! It does but then it comes back! Well that's a pretty normal maintenance thing though.

I know you will very satisfied with your purchase.
