Help desiding please
Hello i am a noob to this forum and i kinda have myself in somewhat of a jam! I actully currently do not own an rx-8 but i may depending on what info you guys give me. I currently own a 2001 mitubishi eclipse GT 3.0L. There is a dealer in my area that got in a 2004 rx8 basicly for me. Now this is my problem. I am debating between buying the rx8 or supercharging the car i have now. Either path i take will end up being about the same price. If i supercharge my eclipse i will be able to run high 13's. Now im not so sure as to what the rx8 is capable of. I asked this same question in on my eclipse forum but of course since its an eclipse for they are going to take their side so therefor i desided to ask the other side as well. What for reason do u have that would make me chose the rx8 and how easy is it to get these cars to 13 second cars without a tc?? Now i know what you are all going to say, I NEED TO SEACH, but frankly i dont have the time, there is someone else looking at the rx8 also and i need to make a choise ASAP!!
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.

It really wouldn't take much time to skim over some threads.
There are just recently new turbo and supercharger kits coming out, but like abbid said, you're going to have to spend thousands to get in the 13s.

If you are getting a car to beat your friends cars, or even to impress your friends . . . then get the whatever is the 'trendy' car in your area. (mommy, daddy, buy me an evo so I can be cool.) If you are getting the car to street race, DO NOT mention it here, we are strictly against that.
Do your reSEARCH. Yes, there, I said it . . SEARCH!!!! If you dont have time to search, then you are about to make a hasty decision in a purchase and screw yourself out of a lot of money.(sounds like this dealership has told you a few things you actually believe)
The RX is a well wounded car that may be too sophisticated for you as of now.

the 8 is not for everyone and is not for you. this car is one that people get b/c they know what the car is and is not. the 8 is not a drag car and is not there to fill the void you have of getting your friends' approval. it is a sophisticated car that you get once you have done research. it's not something you pick off the lot b/c it looks pretty and the dealer said it's fast. go get yourself a mustang and a mullet and be gone little man; you bore me.

I've got 60k on my RX8 and can happily say I've loved every mile. I have driven my friends Evo VIII and the WRX he had before that. I have also taken a Mustang for a test drive. The car in my avitar is also mine. All are good cars, but AWD, RWD solid axle V8, and a RWD fully independant suspension rotary are completely different cars.
With the kinds of questions you've been asking, you should keep your Eclipse. No offense, but the RX8 is just not for you. If you're not going to bother searching this forum at all, then you certainly don't have the patience to work on a car as unique as the RX8. Stick with something easy. Seems to be what you want.

just to add i do more research on cars then most people ever do i know ALOT about there potential which most of you seem to really underrate. Yes i know that the cars perfect 50 50 balance make it a joy to drive on the road around those curvy roads. The car is capable of doing 0-6 in 5.8 seconds and a 14.4 in the 1/4, which is very respectable, most of you dont seem to think so. now you go and slap a turbo on there WELL under 8k i might add you are looking at a 300 hp car, easily enough to get it to mid to low 13's specially on a car that weighs under 3000lbs, now dont tell me that wont make a fun street racer. Not only this because of the rx8 high reving engine with a redline at 9 even adding simple bolt ons such as exhaust headers and intake those high rpms with those bolt ons really allow the car to open up. An rx8 is a very fun SPORTS CAR of high potentail no not a corvette that old farts drive around when they are going threw there mid life crises, which is the impression i get from you guys. just because you are a noob to a forum doesnt mean you are a noob to the car. Maybe you people need to do some research before you start trash talking your own car. What i get from you guys is you think ur driving a luxery car or something, this is a sports car so treat it like one, if you want luxery go buy an audio or something.

By the way, what the hell is an audio?

High RPMs don't matter, TORQUE matters. The engine could easily rev to 12,000 RPMs but that would slow it down, so the gearing for torque is best suited for 9000.
Nobody has recorded proof of a 14.4 quarter mile on a stock 8, or even an 8 with minor bolt-ons. The quarter miles are usually in the 14.8-15.2 range.
Bolt-ons will not give you more than a 5 HP a piece gain because of Mazda's tuning to pass emissions.
We're not trash-talking our own car, we're giving the facts. We know for a fact it's not a drag car, but more of a track/autocross car with everyday driveability and enjoyment.
You're the one making this thread dramatic.

Most awd's do have traction control.( I didn't say the evo specifically) And not all RX-8's have it either.
I just wanted to play with this guy. He seems like one of those . . . what do you call them . . . phishermen! You know, Looking to prove something

it' simple... drive the car, compare it to your eclipse. You will notice that the torque is shyt in the 8 (atleast you should be able to). If after driving it on a highway, and on a road with alot of turns and you are not in love. Park the car, and never come back. That is how you tell if this car is for you or not. I personally fell in love with the car before i even drove it, it has everything i wanted. Then I went and actually drove it and bought it that day. And i drive the freakin AT!!!!
