Help! Lights won't flash

I'm probably doing something very stupid, but the lights won't flash when locking or unlocking the car via the remote key.

Also I get no sound except the horn when i push the remote twice to lock.

How can I get the lights to work?

Frustrated

Have you checked you trunk? I beleive it's been posted here previously that if you popped your trunk, the security system does not flash as not all locks are engaged.

Check your trunk- you probably popped it by accident. When the alarm sees a door ajar, it won't arm/flash/sound as a warning to you that something is wrong.

You might want to check that your trunk is closed.

You may have accidentally hit the Open Trunk button on your key fob. The trunk becomes unlatched but stays close to the closed position so it looks like it's closed. Under these circumstances the car locking system lets you know the trunk is open by refusing to flash...

One more thing- your car should only honk if you hit it twice when locking. If you hit the button once, it'll flash once to let you know it's locked and armed. It'll flash twice to let you know you've unlocked it. The honk just restates that it's locked and armed, and is redundant.

Another neat little feature is if you try to lock it with trunk open, as you did, it remembers your lock attempt. Once the trunk is closed, it will lock, arm and flash the lights. So don't leave your keys in the trunk

Actually, the doors lock when you press the lock button, regardless of whether the trunk is ajar. When you close the trunk, the lights flash to indicate that the alarm is now armed as well.

Kind of like the car's way of saying "HEY BUTTHEAD, STOP PRESSING THAT STUPID BUTTON I'M ALREADY LOCKED...."?

While on the subject of not honking twice... I do arm it twice and make the horn go off if I'm in a not-so-good part of town, or if a questionable character is around. Just lets them know audibly (of course this will only take them a second longer then! HA HA)

But a VERY annoying feature - if you try to lock it with one door open, then once the door is closed, the car is NOT locked. The remote will NOT lock the doors unless both doors are already closed.

On my other car, the remote locks the doors even if one is still open, then flashes the lights when the last door is closed (like the RX-8 does with the trunk).

Regards,
Gordon

i sometimes hit the button to honk the horn when i see someone getting to close. they back off quick because they think they set off some kind of proximity alarm!

I like this.
This prevents you being able to lock your keys in the car.

i love the horn~! i usually park my 8 in front of the walmart, put on my sweet flip top sunglasses and wait for the ladies to roll by with their carts. when they are within distance, i discreetly honk my alarm, all the while leaning suggestively against my ride, making sure my wrangler jeans aren't creased and my hawaiin shirt tucked neatly into my pants. when they turn to look, i merely brush back my mullet and give them the "oh yes ladies, its all me~" grin as i point simultaneously to my 8 and my amply padded groin. oh yes, it is so on!

If you press the power lock button on one of the doors with it opened, then close the door - it does stay locked and flashes the lights (assuming the trunk is closed ). I do this all the time now, since the remote can't do this!

Gordon
