I am wrestling with the same issue- 11 mpg in city driving (easy or hard driving seems to make littel difference)

and 16-17 highway. (1350 miles on 6 speed gt)

I have not opted to do the buyback. My thought is this, since I dont drive many miles (6000 per year), the $800 I invested in 3m coating, (which would not be refunded on buyback) plus $500 cashback, plus 4 years service (lets say a value of $1000 - though it could be more) = $2300. For $2300, I figure that even if I am getting 1/3 less MPG than I should be, that will pay for the extra fuel for me for 5-6 years. And of course the MPG could get better, Mazda could come up with an ecu fix, etc (plus I got $1000 off MSRP- A deal I could get again buit at least I did't pay sticker)

I will however bring it back to the dealer 3 times- if they can't fix it in the next 5 months or so, I will persue lemon law and see where that goes. The other issue is that since MPG suck on my car, I can use the cheapest gas- and cost averaging brings it closer to the 16-17mpg city I used to get in my Probe Gt using sunoco ultra- which is much more expensive.

Someone asked about the way I drive.

I seldomly floor the car, I do accel hard everyone once in a while, like once of out 10 times to about 5000k and I switch to thrid and fourth and I try to use the sixth gera to cruise around as much as I can. When I have to accelearate again (to pass a car or what not) I downshift and accel and I shift to 6 again.

That is normal daily driving. At night its a little differnet.

Sometimes I take the car out for a harder run, but still, I will accel hard to redline 1st gear, and ONLY sometimes accel to redline in second, after those two burst I switch to fouth or fifth and just glide through ramps and exits...:D

doesn;t sound like a lot of fun does it, I am trying to get the best MPG out of the car. In my M3 E36 in Hong Kong... the gas milage is much much much better, I forgot what it was but at least not a tank every two days.. :o

Once again, Thanks a lot guys... haha you have been real nice to me hahah

don't use 87 octane. use common sense.

Also try asking the dealer or a special shop to clean the MAF sensor, or do it yourself.
