If that is not why you got the RX8 good for you. Everybody gets a car for a different reason. This was just one of them.

By all reliable accounts the Civic SI is a very fun car to drive. For the price it's pretty tough to beat as an overall package, GTI is another one that falls into a great all arounder for a great price (as long as you go easy on the options). Both the GTI and the SI aren't far off the RX-8 performance wise as well. The RX-8 will handle better but the GTI and SI will handle plenty well for some spirited driving and they're pretty close in a straight line compared to the RX-8. In addition the SI should hold it's value VERY well, you can't even buy one right now without having to wait a few months.
Don't let the RX-8 zealots fool you into thinking the SI is anything but a fun, sporty, practical, reliable car at a good price.

The Honda S2000 for example... even the 400hp corvette gets better fuel economy.

If they do, then Honda and/or its customers are just silly.

A part of it is that that cars are considered a higher class. If all it was about was performance you can get far more for far less. Style (or personal preference of it), looks, etc has something to do with the RX8.

Plus, comparing the Civic to, say, the Mitsubishi Evo, the Civic looks better inside and out, has better build quality, rides far more comfortably, is more reliable, and as an added bonus, we all know Honda will still be solvent in a couple of years, whereas Mitsubishi...well, that's a huge unknown.

Class is A factor that made me choose the RX8, not THE factor. The person above who commented on the Mercedes C Class makes it sound like that was a factor we should not consider, that it was ONLY about performance. There are several factors that we look at when we consider a car. If perofrmance is the only one, the RX8 doesn't make sense, but it has a lot more to it.

I would really like to see some lap times for both the RX-8 and the Si on the same track with the same driver. I have a strong feeling that they will be close. The stock Si is pulling very impressive numbers on the skidpad and the slalom.
Those Honda four bangers rock. No two ways about it. You will definitely get a great price when you sell the Si, unlike the RX-8. At the end of the day your cost of ownership will be significantly lower. And, I don't think you will be sacrificing much in terms of performance.
Enjoy the car!

Well i kinda thought, in my op. Mazda Rx, Nissan Skyline GTR or the Z, Honda S2000, Toyota Supra were to be in simular class then, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra, and Scion tC. They seem lil under the GT class no?
It would be sorta like comparing BMW M3 to BMW M6. no? and of course M6 - being the 8.

civic hybrid= econobox economy car
civic (base)= econobox
civic Si= sporty econobox
i would get it. but i would rather get the GTi over the Si. and IF rx8 was also an option, i'd take the 8 over any of those fwd cars. My only gripe is fuel economy, otherwise, it's a great driving experience.
