Hey all, just got my first Mazda ever, 04 RX8

Hey all, pretty new here, so yea I'm a total noob to the Mazda and Rotary world. I just bought a 2004 blue Mazda RX-8 Touring package with 43k miles on it for 12k$ yesterday, and drove it back home (400 miles). From what I can tell, this car is awesome. Handles better then my friends Cobra, and is just as fast it seems.

Basically I have just a few questions, as I didnt get a manual with the car or anything. What maintnence do I need to do? What do I have to check often on a rotary car? Is there a thread or article somewhere showing what I should look at and what needs attention?

Heres a pic I snapped with my phone.

This forum is an entire manual for your car.

You got off to a bad start by not researching the rotary before getting into it.. so start reading.

Does Mazda mail out RX-8 manuals to people by any chance I wonder?

Fluids, I guess, if you don't have records of when they were last done. Oil change every 3000 miles. Don't forget to redline at least once every time you take it out. Be nice to the car untill your temp gauge gets to the proper position (excessive wear at high revs during warmup), check at a mazda dealer if you have the latest PCM reflash, check your oil every fillup (what I do at least), carry some in the trunk, don't ever let the low oil light come on

Some good reads are the oil debate thread (which to use) and the DIY forum. Not sure about the manual question.

Check the FAQ, and for the love of god search, or the forum guys will be very unhappy with you

check the DIY, and register on mazdausa.com you can download a manual online. plus, really. read the FAQs, grats on the car though.

one thing tat is hard to find
start car, warm till engine drops to 1.5k rpm, drive below 4k rpm till operating temperature, then stretch it's leg up to red line.

just send it through a website translator, it's pretty much the same thing as any oil thing on a manual.

And yet another idiot that thinks the only reason for forums is to stretch out his e-peen and flame people. Forums are where people share information on things, I know a lot about v8's, 2 strokes, computers, electronics, and I'm happy to share any info with anyone if they ever ask, I dont care if they tried looking for themself or not...

Thanks for all the great info everyone, I'm at work now (when am I not? Haha, being 21 and having this car & a house requires me to work my butt off), otherwise I would have more time to research everything!

Thanks again.

The manual is a free download at www.mazdausa.com under the owners section. You should go ahead and get one of these, then take the time to read it. It's a good start.

/agree

Being 22 myself and buying this car is such a great feeling. (Although I have no house, I am saving :D)

Yeah I can see where "older" members of the community might get irritated by "n00bs" who ask questions - but theres no reason to be a ***** about it. Simply dont post, that simple.

is it a manual or an automatic?

your name is fail of failside. its like a fail crashed into a fail and just made more fail, but this time the fail was squared.

But he got off to a great start by buying an RX-8.

Veli - definitely take the advice to sign up at Mazda's web site and download the owner's manual. Maintenance schedules are in there...follow Schedule 2, not 1.

Search for Nubo's "Houdini dipstick maneuver" thread for the easy way to check the oil. There's also a FAQ sub-forum at the top of this forum.

Take a deep breath and don't be intimidated/frightened by the oil discussions.

Enjoy your ride...but from your post I think you've got that one figured out already.

Ken

If you're such an expert on how forums are supposed to work, you'd know that there is a search function. Also, you called the first person that replied to your first thread a flaming moron. Maybe not the best start?

Grats on the 8 though.

I have been searching, hard to find much of anything I'm looking for with the search.

Im trying to figure out how to disable that damn alarm system the RX-8 came with, it will randomly go off at times, I unlock the doors and open the door and it goes off, but I can drive it and it will stop after like 2 minutes, but then when I turn the vehicle off, it starts up again.

Someone said theres a button under the dash, but I looked for a good 30 minutes and cant find it.

Congrats on a great car. You don't really have to search, read through most of the stickies and you are good to go.

You are like coming into the library asking wtf is up with Einstein, and if someone there tells you that the book about him is in the shelf next to you, you tell them to **** off and ask if anyone else got some input on him Not a good way to ask for help.

So your saying theres a wire you can clip to disable the security system built into the car? If its that simple, that will be great, as I have no desire for the stock system. Later on I'll probably get an aftermarket one installed w/ Remote start and some better keyring remotes.

Took a look at the link and tried to find something about a shop manual or electric wiring, but didnt seem to get anywhere. At work right now so I'll take a better look later.
