in one of the posts somewhere there is a pic of the equipment list that was posted at the car shows. it says something about a bose system. not much other info. i dont think it mentioned mp3's but it will probably be an option. my mother in law just got a new ford ranger with an mp3 player. they are becoming more and more popular, and since ford owns mazda....

PC card?
i just downloaded the press kit from http://www.mazdausamedia.com/SwitchBoard.cfm for the rx8 and after opening up the photos and zooming in on the cd player, i can see a slot that says "PC card" right next to the slot for the CDs. is this for PC card storage devices like hard drives? like, is this another media for storing and playing MP3s?
i think this press kit is old. it seems that the latest revision of the rx8 is the yellow one and that this red one is old and irrelevant. can someone verify this? are all these pictures of something that we will never see or is this the production model?

Here are my requests for the factory stereo system. Have a QUALITY in-dash. Use good DAC's, something like a pair of 24 bit Burr-Brown DAC's. And give the in-dash 3 sets of RCA pre-outs - front, rear, and sub. I want to keep the factory in-dash, but not if I have to use a line-level convertor to hook up an external amp! Why can no manufacturers understand that?
Also, consider speaker placement very carefully. Have tweeters located high and as far forward as possible. Then have a separate pair of 6.5's in front with a nice big sealed enclosure behind them ... and mount them as high as possible too.
Basically, just take time to consider layout and give us something that can be upgraded easily.
