hey guys
Hey guys!
Well, I've been reading around all of the forums quite a lot now...and I've finally decided to start to try to be active rather than be a spectator.
I recently bought a used '04 GT a few weeks ago, but...some weird problems happened with the gearbox. The previous owner installed the 4.777 final gear and I'm guessing he didn't screw on the bolts hard enough, because some of them went loose and ripped a whole in the gearbox. Anyways, that's all fixed.
But, I'm facing another problem now... I'm still really young...17 actually, and I've never learned how to drive stick. I was determined from the very start to buy one though, just to try to get the most enjoyment from the car. I've tried for a while on how to learn, and I think the progress is okay. I mean--I can move the car now and shift, but with my dad in the car, it's kind of nerve wracking... (a lot of yelling. I know he doesn't do it on purpose, because I know I'd be scared in his shoes)
Well, do you guys have any tips on how to learn more proficiently? Thanks in advanced :D
P.S. The previous owner also installed the ACT performance street clutch...I'm not even sure what that really does, I haven't read up on that yet, but I will. So if that has anything to do with it, then yeah...haha

okay....well sorry.
It's not like I'm trying to be a "big cup of fail." I've been reading up a lot on the car and especially from these forums, and I respect everyone here because I know you have way more knowledge than me right now. And to swoope I respect you a lot too, I've seen your replies(not to seem stalker-like), and every time I see them, I never cease to be amazed.
I'll learn from my mistakes....and to everyone prior thanks for the tips and the site...

then first,
you might want to post where you are from..
that is a start..
second dont come up with lame *** stuff like the rear gear messed up my tranny..
maybe you cold post up some repairs to the car.. as you have holes and stuff..
maybe you are really that young. but a photo of the car and the holes in all the stuff that have been failing would, well make you less likely to be a troll.
you fail on many levels..
and really you have read how many of my posts!?

haha...alright
I guess I know why you would think of me as a troll. I really didn't know what happened, but that was what the mechanic told my dad in vietnamese, and that's how I interpreted it. I'll try to post the pictures up soon. I still have the broken cover box and bolts I think.
and, all he did was (the mechanic) order a new cover and put in stronger bolts.
and...
I'm in Irvine, California...still in highschool and graduating soon. can't wait for college
and yes....i've read A LOT of your posts. i feel pretty good being able to actually converse with you already LOL i'm a retard -_- sorry

haha dang swoope your always killin people... but as for the whole driving stick part... go out and drive... preferably not your car because your going to burn through your clutch real quick not to mention that you might flood it if you stall it out right after you start her up.....
learning clutch is like riding a bike once you learn you'll never forget... just gotta get your training wheels off there bud

There's no secret to learning how to drive stick. Just practice. We could sit here and go over "gas off, clutch in, change gear, clutch out, gas on" all day. Each clutch is different and its just something you have to feel. Find an empty parking lot and just practice. I went through my neighborhood which was full of stop signs and learned pretty quickly. Roll your windows down, turn off the radio, and just listen/feel the actual car. Watch the tach if you need to. You're going to suck the first couple days. Everyone does. And you'll still be pretty rough a few weeks from now. But you'll get it through practice. I've had my car for a year and a half now and stalled it today actually (stereo was too loud). Its no big deal.
BTW don't be worried about ruining your clutch. I first learned on my moms Explorer when I was 15 and wore the **** out of that thing and it still worked fine years from then. And again had to relearn a little on my RX8 and my clutch is still 100% at 41K and change.

^ i learned by hopping onto a sportbike. For some reason it seemed very much like common sense. I didnt know **** too , like what a clutch did. All i knew is i could feel a friction , and when i let go of the clutch it started to move etc etc. By the end of that day i was better at driving then 99% of the population (america LOL), Pos cagers on their cell phones and ****.

P.S. THANKS A LOOOOT guys! I really mean it :D I went out for about 2 hours today to practice again and I'm about to go again, but it's getting better!
