Start off by reading the FAQs, especially the ones for new owners. Then look for the thread "The little things."
Then spend a few liesurely evenings just randomly browsing the site. This forum ("RX-8 Discussion") is a good place. Open and read any threads that have interesting titles. If you're technically inclined, go to the Tech forum and spend a while browsing the DIY sub-forum.
At least that's what I did when I first found this site, and it's served me very well.

I just purchased mine about a month ago, and did just like the posts above, i did a lot of lurking on here and read as much as I could. Other than that, test drive as many as you can before buying one if you are getting one used. One may look good but not be good, but you'll never know unless you have a comparison.

DO...
abuse the rotary, take it to 9k...
pretty much drive like you stole it...obeying all speed laws and being cautious of other traffic that is..
dont..
treat it like a piston engine..
check oil more often than usual and make sure you plugs, coils, and wires are good, those go out very easily.

Search function is a little unpredictable. Sometimes it hits really well, sometimes it leads nowhere. If you can't find something, feel free to ask. Just begin your post with "I searched but couldn't find..." That will ward off most of the "Search, noob" replies.
At the bottom of each thread there's a "Similar thread" list. Sometimes I think that uses better search logic than the main search engine. So if you ask a question, that list might provide answers sooner than folks can reply.
