Good luck and I don't think the parents are gonna buy it regardless of your argument.

Polak.

I can only confirm that via normal highway/city mix of driving I get about 17 mpg.

However, on majority HIGH-SPEED runs, confirming what Elara said, I get around 23 mpg, cruising at 85 mph+. These were two runs at 85-90 mph for about 90 miles total. If I trust the ticks on my gas gauge, I burned less than 4 gallons, whereas I would have done about half the tank at "normal" speeds.

That is the highest I've ever gotten. My mileage has gone down with oxygenated gas, now. Errr...

You can't trust the gas gauge for calculating gas mileage.

Even from the standpoint of experience?

After 50+ gas-ups at various levels, I think I can gauge what's left in the tank down to +/- 1 gallon or less.

From that standpoint, I'll amend my statement and say, if it's reasonably accurate.

Due to Snow I’ve only put on 400 miles since I posted this tread. I've tanked up twice during those 400, I was going to get another tank, just to be sure, b4 I announced the dismal news.

Though not as horrible as most people tanks I have yet to approach the magical 31 I was on. First tank was a mix of city/highway got 22mpg. And last tank was traveling to the airport to pickup my sister. The Road (turnpike) and speeds were almost identical to last time, if not a little bit faster. Sadly I only got 24mpg, I do believe I got 31mpg but I doubt it will ever happen again

Edit: Just because im Polish, and 16. Doesn't mean I rely on hallucinates to feel happy (I have an 8 after all). As for alcohol thats a different story.

Polak

At 16 if you are not hallucinating it could be that your testerone levels are on overdrive .
A good cure for lowering your testorone levels is drink plenty of fresh water and get lots of good *****.ha ha ha

Well,
Whenever I go fast 100+mph my fuel economy sucks... Regular driving gives me 17 to 21 mpg (70-90mph mostly highway, lots of redlining). My opinion faster you go worse fuel economy. Sounds reasonable too.

I think I will try driving around for a while in just 2nd gear to see if that works. Also for some of you with the 6 speed M/T like me don't forget that we get more air at higher rpm's. That is why we have the extra ports... Someone might look into this and see if we start running leaner at higher rpm's.

OMG...YOU ARE ONLY 16!!!!...WTF!!!

I tried to get my parents to buy me a 300ZX TT when I was 16 but they laughed...I did get an Acura Integra GSR though...schwing...well ,schwing, after I put thousands of dollars and hours tuning it....so in the end I guess I got a >$30,000 car when i was 16...but not until I was around 21..wait i'm confusing myself...so did I or didn't I .....i gotta go now...

Well, normal piston engines' efficiencies generall rise linearly, then fall off sharply past a certain RPM.

However, I've never seen an efficiency curve for a rotary before. The HP / torque curves fall off more gently than a piston.

I'll have to see if I can get my hands on some Wankel charts...

Back to college...sigh...

I'm on tank 12 and I still get almost exactly 200 miles per tank and it always takes approx 14 gallons to fill it.

That is a little over 14 MPG, for the mathematically-challenged.

Makes no difference how I drive and believe me, I've done it all.

Hm... my very first tank yielded exactly 19 mpg and I am approaching the second fillup - I think this time it will be at least as good or maybe better

I'm with Maniac. I have tried every tip I could find in this forum, and no matter what I did I get 16.5. So I gave up trying to save gas, drive like a maniac (no pun intended), still get 16.5 and have a lot more fun.

There is one thing that did change mileage, namely a drive to LA. My only road trip outside SD county. Then I got 21 mpg. So if you follow that thread on statistical analysis, I really pay attention to how much people drive on the freeway, and stop 'n go don't count.

I'm constantly getting 15-16 MPG...I started off around 19-20 when I first bought it in August...i'm at 5500 miles now...looking into the ECU reflash...maybe i'll get some relief...

but i didn't buy the car for MPG...even though I sorely wish it were better....at least until 92 Octane goes back to $0.89 a gallon....YEH RIGHT!!!

I'm with the majority on the board as well...no matter how I drive the car I get barely above 200 miles per tank. I just don't see how one car can pull out 31 mpg when just about everyone on the board is getting between 14 and 21. I know what it is!!! Mazda messed up and put a Mazda 6 engine (4 cyl) in your car!! :-)

Seriously though, it's anomaly I'm not ready to believe...until someone like Canzoomer comes out with some fuel mapping consumption chip! Yeah, little far fetched...but is nice to think about!

My first tank also yielded exactly 19 MPG... mostly highway driving, but with some nasty stop and go action near the front and rear ends of the commute. Second tank appears to be on par with the first based on an unscientific eyeballing of the guage. Still breaking in the engine, so I suppose I'm driving a bit like a grandma, but I'm encouraged so far.

I'm hopeful that when the engine is fully broken in and under optimal conditions, 24 MPGs might be possible on extended highway runs at relatively low speed (under 70). Not much fun in that though...
