From my experience, rotary engined cars mileage vs speed etc. is really no different than piston engined cars.
The higher the RPM the poorer the mileage. Long trips with few stops will give the best mileage. Hills will decrease mileage (you loose more going up than you gain going down). Best mileage will be when cruising at around 80 km/hr (50 MPH), keeping RPMs around 2500 to 3000.
All that being said, last year in my 3rd gen RX-7 I got 9.5 L/100 km (I usually get from 10 to 12). That was on
<- that road (avitar) and not sparing the HP. It has 18% grades, slow to 10 km/hr corners (and almost no traffic or police . It's an RX road!!!!

Geez Polak....I bet you don't want to post info. like that again. Lots of crap, doubt and teasing.... You sound like you are doing well with your decals & your awesome 8..... so here's to you!!! I know many just like to have fun and give you a hard time. I am sure most are harmless. Long thread. Whew. Anxiously awaiting my sample carbon fiber RX8 decal.

I think SOMEONE drove your car while you were at work/sleeping and put some gas in it so you wouldn't find out.
If it drops back down to 18-20 in the next test then you know something was messed up with that 31 MPG.
