Hey i need help i want to buy an alarm what is the best.
OK let me get started in my neighbor hood cars and house have been broken into, and I don't think the stock alarm is good at all. I want an alarm that has shock protection, and has a beeper to tell me if something is wrong. I also really want a remote engine starter. I know in manual I dot think you can have one but I want it anyway. I never bought an alarm so I don't know what is good for the money.
Can you guys please help me decide and tell me which one you guys prefer.

Not sure why you want to disable the stock alarm, but that is what will happen when you install a remote starter. Your key has a chip in it. Without that chip within about 2-4 ft of the key switch, your car CANNOT be started. It can't be jumped, it can't be rewired. It just plain will not run. If you have another alarm with remote start installed, they will have to hide a key in the car. This will disable the best anti-theft system you can buy (the one you already have).
You can add a "normal" alarm to the car to make noise or notify you when someone tries to break into it. That option wouldn't affect the key chip system. Not sure what good it would do you though. Most people ignore car alarms. As far as being notified when the car was being broken into I don't think you would want to interrupt a thief unless you were heavily armed.

I'm installing a system that is probably a lot more than what you are looking for but fully capable of meeting your needs. I'd take a look at directed.com and check out the viper systems. They can be installed as simple or as complex as you want, including GPS tracking.
Just a note for RX-8 friend. I used to live in NY and I fully disagree with your idea of the key imobilizer system. It truly is only great in theory. I myself am installing a remote start system, which does mean having to bypass the immobilizer...why, b/c the immobilizer is worth jack in the first place. In my experience, car theives that really want your car won't even bother trying to break in, they'll tow it. So what good is your immobilizer? At least with a full set of sensors (proximity, shock, height/tilt) the alarm will be tripped, and with a GPS tracking system, it will be triggered and tracked as stolen. And besides, any good remote start system will have a starter kill circuit that will disable the starter with the same effectiveness, if not better than the key immobilizer.
Trust me, there is no perfect system, but the best you can do is make it a damn pain in the a$$ to take your car, and I think Viper is the best system so far.
PS - Clifford is now owned by directed electronics, who is also ownes viper, and a dozen other alarm companies.

From what I understand, the crime situation in South Africa is to the extreme where all police officers carry semi-automatic rifles, and are instructed to have them out even during routine traffic checks.
But yes, I have seen the metal ankle-choppers that swing out from under the car. It's wicked I say! :-D

When triggered from inside the car the bars would spring out breaking the legs/ankles of whoever was within 6 feet of the car!

Yes, you can install remote start on a manual tranny. Again, I'm having it done on my 8. There are some requirements, such as the purchase of a new code key ring detector, and giving up a key to be hidden somewhere in the vehicle. The manual 8 does have a nuetral switch, which is good news, this means it knows if its in nuetral or in gear, thus you can prevent potential remote starts when acceidently in gear. You will need to bypass the clutch start switch. When having this done, especially with a viper system, I highly, highly, highly, advise having it done professionally. (Though you may need to do some convincing b/c it is a manual, but the fact that the manual tranny does have a nuetral switch built in is usually a good persuasion.)

I have a Viper 791xv installed on my car. It has a two way pager that will tell me what's going on if the alarm is triggered, or if warning chirps are triggered. It's installed on my car on top of the stock system, so I have both armed when I choose to do so. I don't have remote start since I have a manual and my install guy said that any dealer that installs remote start on a manual tranny is askin for a lawsuit. If the car is left in gear while parked and remote started, the potential for the car to move is there and if a kid happens to be passing by your car when that happens... hope for the best.

Dont think there is any "best" alarm. If a thief wants to steal your car, he/she will steal it - period. What you are doing is just making it hard for the thief, but what I would suggest, along with the alarm system, is installing a Line Lock also. Which makes it a pain in the a$$ for them to try to tow it (if they ever try to). So you might have a little peace of mind.
I was thinking of also installing the viper alarm system w/ remote start. But after much consideration, why bother wasting my money. There's also another way too if they wanted to steal your car. Which I heard that they did with a G35, thiefs carrying their own ECU and key. Ain't that pretty? Nothing will stop them if they want it.

That is a very hard way to steal a car. On the Nissan there are two components to the security. One is the ECU. The other is the security module in the steering column. It would take them some time to change out both units. All that for a $35,000 car? What's the world coming to?
