after reading all of your comments and reactions about the event, i don't understand. the car is more important than the animal that you hit. your rx8 is more important than the princeless life of a creature. why are people so selfish and only cares about their own properties. i am not targeting this comment towards anyone, this is just something i would everyone to take notice of.

BTW, how long have you been getting away with the clear corners in Ontario?
Stealth bulbs, etc.?
I'll figure out the insurance thing tomorrow after I get my baby to the shop.

And what do you mean, "getting away with the clear corners in Ontario?" They're amber when they're on and they're on whenever it's not bright out. Almost everyone I know with an '8 in Ontario has done this mod.

Some tips from M. O. T.

Tips to Reduce Your Collision Risk

Collisions with wild animals can result in serious vehicle damage, personal injury or even death.
Know the Facts, Reduce the Risk

* On average, there is a motor vehicle/wild animal collision every 38 minutes
* One out of every 18 motor vehicle collisions involves a wild animal
* Motor vehicle/wild animal collisions are increasing annually. In 2003, 13,729 collisions were reported. Many more go unreported.
* 90 per cent occur on two-lane roads outside of urban areas
* 84 per cent occur in good weather

Hitting animals falls under comprehensive coverage so $300 deductible.

Ontario law.
Lamps required on all motor vehicles except motorcycles

62. (1) When on a highway at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall carry three lighted lamps in a conspicuous position, one on each side of the front of the vehicle which shall display a white or amber light only, and one on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red light only. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 62 (1).

This has nothing to do with disrespect of animal life, actually. You want us to mourn an animal that has errantly strayed into the path of a vehicle? OK, fine, some of us feel bad for the animal. Others don't, having realized that there probably was nothing you could to do to avoid the animal deciding to wander out into your way.

Incidences like this in the middle of nowhere with some wild forest animal are unfortunate, and a real risk to drivers - just look at all the people seriously injured or killed by moose collisions, for example. When you drive in nature, you have to be aware of nature, weather, environment, and animals.

Proudly count me among the "selfish". Somebody's beloved car is a hundredfold more valuable than some random animal too stupid to avoid playing in traffic. If the animal had been someone's beloved pet, maybe I could work up some sympathy, but otherwise it's just: score one more for evolution.

In short, I reject outright the premise that animals are somehow intrinsically more valuable than man-made items, or that anyone who denies this premise is somehow "selfish".

That's not all that bad. Gives you an excuse for an aftermarket front lip

Two months after we got the 8, my wife was going 70+ on I-81 and hit a deer. $10,000 in damage (but cost us nothing out of pocket).

Holy crap!!
About $5000 to repair my car. Well I was feeling sorry for that poor animal until now.
And talk about adding insult to injury; the rental is a Charger.
My life sucks.

$5000.00...wow! Well, atleast your deductible is only $300.

Thanks for the stats. It's true that animal collisions have cost many lives, especially among us motorcyclists. I usually ride on country roads and had more close calls with animals than anything else. But, it's us encroaching on their space, so what can ya do. Atleast all our animals in these parts are usually small, could have been a moose!

Sorry about the claim, Dark Brew. Better the comprehensive than collision.

But the clears are illegal in Ontario. You disagree. Whatever. I bow to your knowledge and your obvious inability to avoid a cat/raccoon/coyote/hump of mud.

Careful driving your rental home you crazy fella!

Miker

I did not disagree with you. Perhaps you can quote me the section of the OHTA that backs up your claim. Or is hurling insults the best you can do?

well. that is my opinion. i am really **** about killing creatures that should not be killed at all. yes, the bunny(??) was stupid to run onto the open road. However, my first reaction would be stoping my car and look at the bunny. i would try my best to dig a hole for it with the emergency kit that i have in the car. After all that, i would look at my car. and probably won't be driving at night for a long while. there is no need to destroying an innocent life.

Krankor,

After reading your post, I'd SUBTRACT one from evolution.
