Homelink garage door opener on the mirror
I didn’t pay any attention to the left buttons on the rear view mirror when I bought my new Grand Touring model, and once home and thinking that they were to program a garage door opener, I (gasp) looked in the manual to see that homelink is optional. Figured that I didn’t get it, but there it is noted on the sticker. So, duh, do I have it standard on the GT and if so how do I program it, or if I gotta order it (I hate the garage door opener clutter) how and how much? Thanks. And once again, duh.

It comes on the GT model.
If you have the manual.. it has handy instructions in the back on how to program it..
Although, I tried to follow the instructions on my friend's Honda accord for her Homelink and I almost killed her cat
SO be careful around small animals!

I've programmed two garage doors with Homelink. The first was very simple because the opener was a few years old and did not have the rolling security code that now seems standard on newer door openers. The second opener was trickier to program. If you have any problems at all, I recommend going to Homelink's web site and looking at the easy step-by-step photos of how to do it properly. The web address is set out in the RX-8 manual.
Also, if you do have a rolling code opener, it is slightly easier to program the Homelink unit with the help of a second person as there is an adequate but not excessively long delay between when you need to push buttons on the garage opener unit and push buttons in the car. Since you need to stand on a ladder, I suggest not dropping acid.
I'm very happy with my Homelink. Good luck with yours.

Mine has a rolling code as well and I was happy that I didn't have to stand on a ladder (over my car) as I went back and read my garage door manual. By pushing a few buttons on the hard wired garage door opener (not the hand wireless remote) it simulates pushing the "learn" button on the actual door opening unit itself.

I am the only person in my neighborhood that knows how to program a rolling code homelink. Every time someone gets a new car, I get a knock on the door. Its actually very simple. but most people do not read instructions. If you can do it, you got clout!

So, I followed the (very clear) directions from the manual five or six times, and it didn't work with my Genie Intellicode. Called the hotline, and received the same very clear directions. Twice more it didn't work. Figured one more time before I quit and, it set. Here is an example how doing the exact same thing and expecting a different result isn't crazy. I shared this story with my neighbor and also my cousin, both of whom admitted that they could get theirs to set, and just continued to use the remote.
