Homelink question

Is there any way that you can set the home-link to work only when the key is in the ignition. I don't park the car in the garage but I would like to use my home-link button to open the door from time to time.

I'd like to know the same thing. My car's always in the garage, but I always thought about what if my car or my wife's was outside for whatever reason and someone got in there and used the button.

Any (practical) ideas anyone?

Just cut the power wire and run a new one off a switched power source. No big deal... Then again it's not my car so I could tell you to cut all the wires.

Doesn't everyone leave a garage door clicker in the car? If you're compulsive about securing (locking) the car, the Homelink button is secured.

Nope, never have. Why invite someone into your garage by simply breaking a car window.

Why don't you park the car in the garage?

(It has always intrigued me why people store evrything but their car inside the garage, when the garage is supposed to be the car's room)

Ha, ha. I've always wondered that, too. Several people I know have garages and the cars never go in it.

Hell, one of the reasons I bought the particular house I did was because of the 2 car garage (so both cars could sleep indoors)

I am looking for a place with a two-car garage right now, except the ones I have found are a little too high for what you get, in my opinion. I found a fairly nice one, $100 more a month than I wanted to spend but workable, but I couldn't stand the thought of being near the next door neighbors.

I'm trying to move by the end of the end of the year assuming I can find something that my future roommate and I can agree on.

maybe they have more than cars than garages. yea i know a couple of my neighbors that leave the cars outside... iono why either.

i figure you could do what socr8tes said and re-route the power wire from another source... maybe the moonroof or something. not sure if voltage is the same.

Voltage should be the same, All equipment in the car runs on 11-13 volt DC current with the exeption of the starter ans spark plugs.

the real question is will the homelink keep the signal code in the memory if it looses power like that.

that would be a cool mod, (I'd actually like to heve the power outlet inside the armrest constantly on, so I could leave the cellphone charging, and the homelink switched with the ignition)

Easy enough to test. I believe the Homelink wiring harness just plugs in behind the mirror. Unplug it for a few minutes and see what happens.

Single car garage and two young kids. Enough said.

The code will remain even if power is cut so tying it into an ignition switch enabled power source would seem to be the only answer.

Ah... if that's the case, then a simple relay ought to do the trick cutting the power to the button. I wasn't sure what would happen if power was cut to the HomeLink system.
