I tried making a search on this and I couldn't find anything so forgive me if I overlooked anything.

So I was entering an highway picking up speed as I got in when all of a suddent, at around 50 or so mph, I hear a really strange metallic "pop" noise and I realize that my hood is "on the safety", flapping around. I had to stop on the shoulder to reclip it again.

Is this a known issue? It scared the HELL out of me. I don't want this to happen when I go at 75+ mph.

Just give the hood a light push on the front edge after you have dropped it and make sure that it doesn't move. Or don't drop the hood from 10 inches and just slowly lower it and apply pressure until you hear and feel it lock into place. I pulled the hood release once with my foot as I got out and didn't know what I had done until I was down the road about a half mile. Everything is fine but I got a little frightened at first. Now I check the hood by pressing down on it occassionally to make sure that it is secure.
