Hopeful NEWS on the air cond./heating issue

My little beauty went in for the 4 mo oil change and to take care of a number of items I wanted looked at. One was given to the dealer as:

1. (summer observation) Air conditioner seems very weak, needs HI fan setting to keep cool. Also annoying cycles of warm-cold-hot-cool, warm-cold-hot-cool, warm-cold-hot-cool air from vents…. unless recirculate mode in engaged - ALSO - With just fan boosted fresh *outside air* on, air thru ducts is much hotter than outside, somehow it is being heated.

Called tonite and they want to keep the car overnight while new parts arrive. What are these parts I asked?

Well, one was a new control unit for the ventilation equipment. Said this was brand new, last week kind of thing, and Mazda wanted to get the car taken care of immediately (I like their attitude !) Really!

I'll know more when I get it back, and report back, but I have high hopes for a real fix, and wouldn't that be nice to see Mazda respond and resolve an important issue on a new car?!

Very. Like I have been saying as many others. There are a few glitches out there because this is pretty much a COMPLETELY NEW car. Mazda is trying very hard though to resolve as much as they can, as quickly as they can. When it comes down to it, 9 horse power really isn't as big of a deal as say, engine malfunctions and actual noticable stuff. 9 horses really isn't that noticable, seriously, i/h/e on a honda civic equates to roughly 10 horses, and you really can't notice a different with your butt-dyno.

I had my Rx8 delivered two weeks ago and have issues with the air conditioner. I have read your postings and wonder if any new information has been found.

Outside temperature was 52 F this morning and the system blows air at 125 F with the air off, vents open and the temperature dial centered. At full "heat" it was blowing 150 F. At the other end it was blowing 75 F. With the air on and centered it is still blowing air at above outside temperature . . . close to 100F.

I intend to take it to the dealer but would be interested in any information or comments anyone might have before I do so.

Got the car back, my work order stated this, no TSB#, but...

"CHECKED ESI AND NO HELP. CALLED TO GET UPDATED CONTROLER FOR A/C PROBLEM. INSTALL A/C CONTROLER AND PROGRAMMED AND ALL WORKING GOOD AT THIS TIME"

...beyond that the service mgr said it was a newly issued fix.

I wonder if there will be a TSB or a recall on this soon; that would be great! Of course, I won't be using my A/C much for about the next 6 months!

Thanks. Spin9K

Though you don't say . . . I assume that all is actually working now and the "fix" worked.

I will print this out and let my dealer know in the event he is out of the loop.

I will be hoping for the best.

how did you measure the temperature of the blown air?

Did you hold a thermometer into the air stream? Did it touch the vent?

I want to do the same test on mine now

I have one of those termometers that the air conditioner guys use . . . I held it in the vent . . . the tip not touching the sides and waited. I wasn't going for a precise measurement. I got it from my dad and I don't know where he came to have it but I am not sure it matters what kind is used.
