some people will come in flaming you talking about, its a sports car, sports cars are supposed to guzzle gas. If you cant handle it then you shouldnt have bought the car etc etc etc... but the fact of the matter is there are many sports cars that not only have more power such as the Z, 335i, corvette etc that gets much better real world gas mileage.

It is what it is though, and there are plenty of people who drive SUVs etc faced with the same situation as you. getting a beater helps a lot. another thing is to try to break less, people brake way too much in general, try to let the engine slow down for you. best of luck, and make sure you enjoy the car and opens her up from time to time too.

so you kill your tank in 4 days of driving 20 miles a day?...

so.. you get 80 miles to the tank? aka 6-7mpg... okay something is wrong then..

i drive the same distance to work as you do.. but i dont shift at 3.5k, i shift at 9k until "speed limit" of course.. i can usually get 200-220 out of my car per 12.5 gallons... i beat the hell out of my car... the worst gas millage i recieved with it is in the winter when i have to let it warm up for 20mins and then i get 120-150 per 12.5 gallons... and i would shift earlier to cuz of the snowy conditions... and it is a sports car and you are going to have to take in effect its a rotary powered car... its like a 2stroke engine on a dirt bike... it eats the gas..

You're suppose to hit Redline once a day to keep your engine healthy.

I shift at 4k-5k rpm usually and one or two redlines a day. They say it helps clean carbon out of the motor, but I just like the noise.

Buy a bicicle, apart from improving your gas mileage by not having to fill up, you'll get in really good shape by winter.

I commute 30km each way and use a tank every four days but my mileage is right around 18 miles per US gallon It's all the extra trips that kill my tank.
You get over 22 MPG at Hyw speed but you lose mileage for every startup cycle and for every time you accelerate. Also low ambient temperature affects mileage.
Keep the revs up and have fun!

What he said is very confusing. I think he may need to log back on and inform us if he is getting 80 miles to the tank.....someone is suckin' the gas out.

I smell a troll just trying to irritate by exposing the one of the RX8's flaws. It's his first post and only, and he just signed up. Just my observation, which is why I deleted my advice thread.

I read in the paper over the weekend that thieves are now stealing the gas out of cars parked for a few hours in shopping malls, train stations, etc.

If you're not 6 - 7K in every gear, you might as well buy a Camry. You'll get 14 mpg, but the people you're passing will soooo admire you.

i can afford it but i just thought there was something wrong...cuz i had an fc and that thing was pretty good on gas mileage...i just wanted to know if it was normal,

but on the other hand i do brake harsh and accelerate pretty often...

its worth it tho i just wanted to see if there was a an inexpensive way to get better gas mileage...
