How can I tell if paint marks can be "buffed out"?
I have a couple of red paint marks on my Silver 8, both on the passenger side.
One is above the front fender, and one is near the rear fender.
The paint is not scratched or dented in the least, and I have no idea how those marks got there.
Trying to figure out how they got there is driving me nuts.
How can I tell if they can be buffed out without actually taking it in to a body shop, and there is anything else I can try to remove the marks?

I would just take it to a reputable body shop (a good one—a place car nuts take their cars to) and ask them—they won't charge you to look at it, and a good shop will be honest and tell you if it's something you can do yourself—maybe with polishing compound or Meguiar's Scratch-X or something.

Get them wet. A good buff job will get out most scratches that are not down to the metal. They will still be visible a tiny bit, but that is because you knew where they were before the buffing.
Lick you finger and rub on them. If the wetness of you finger makes them dissappear, A buffing will look just fine. Or if you have a little wax at home, try that. Unless you have a black car, then you are screwed either way

red paint on silver.. if it's just a paint scuff, get some tar remover and get to scrubbing. if it still wont come off break out the turpentine and scrub it off. just do use anything too abrasive. i think strong paper towels or a microfiber is perfect. turpentine is recommended cleaner by mazda for paint claeaning. just remeber to clean and rewax when you are done.

Try Mcguiar's cleaning waxes. I've had it work wonders for me with past cars; haven't needed it on my 8, thankfully.
