How Can I tell what type of RX8 I have?

I just bought an 04 MT RX8. I have done a little researxh and found nothing that would tell me if I have a 4 port or 6 port, or what the difference is. I know this is a stupid question, and I probably could have used the search button a little better, but oh well. Thanks for the help.

All 6 speed MT's are 6 port. As I recall, only the early AT's had the 4-port engine. Do some searches when you have questions and you will find a friendly forum.

Check out this thread, for example: https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/year-year-changes-143280/

Hello friendly forum,
As far as I can tell, the 2004 aut0matic "is powered by the RENESIS 13B-MSP (multi side port) Wankel 654×2 rotary engine displacing 1.3 litres non-turbo (1308 cc)."
"The 4-port standard RENESIS produced 191 hp (142 kW) and was coupled with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The 6-port high power RENESIS was only available with a six-speed manu4l transmission and was rated at 250 hp (186 kW)."

I really wish I had the manual 6.

The low power 4 port engine was never mated to a manual transmission for the North American market. The high power 6 port was downrated in power to eventually settle at 232 hp. In 2006 the automatic transmission cars got this engine, but the redline stayed at the lower level. This meant that while they got more horsepower, they couldn't get to the level of the manual transmission cars with a 9000 rpm redline.

If you have 16 inch tires, you have the base (no name) model. If you have cloth seats, xenon lights and TSC/DSC then you have a Sport model. If you have a sunroof you have a Touring model. If you have leather seats, you have a Grand Touring model.

If you work this trans real hard, it tends to break.

Are you joshing him?
I've worked it and it hasn't given me trouble. I was pleasantly surprised by the tranny being so dependable. Now the seal rings...
