The cloth seats are of very high quality. Personally, I find that the cloth seats are very supportive and comfortable. The leather in the GT package will offer more adjustments. But I could find a very comfortable position with the cloth seats and spending extra would be a waste for me (I mean how often to people really have to adjust their seats). I was strongly considering the leather/GT package, but decided against because 1) cloth grips better, 2) I hate taking care of leather, 3) my Acura with leather looks like an old worn shoe after 6 years, 4) cloth breaths better in the humid summers, 5) the cloth looks SHARP in the RX8, and 6) cloth is not so cold in the freezing winters...

But... In the end, it all a matter of preference... But, just FYI, the cloth seats are very high in quality...

The Shinka leather is like slipping into a soft buttery negligee.

i love the cloth seats, appearance wise and comfort wise. they hold me in well when im cornering. my only compalint is that my wallet hurts my right butt cheek...this is the only car ive pwned that has done that to me. but thats probably because my wallet is thick full of dolla dolla bills. but seriously for long trips i drop my wallet in the cup holder.

You do realize that they make bills larger than $1. You can trade in the 40 one dollar bills for two shiny $20's. Might help with your gigantic wallet.

I love the leather. It has a sporty look and still feels great. I get compliments all the time saying how comfortable the seats are. I think they really make the interior look awesome too; with the rotary emblem in them as well, the silver backing, and sporty look while maintaining a very comfortable, luxurious feel.

leather seats are great.. but in the summer they can get pretty warn on the back.. and in the winter don't even sit unless you had the car running for a few mins with the seat warmers on. But I love the leather feeling and the look so those two issues aren't to big of a deal!

I love the leather seats in the 8. On a trip to Illinois last year(2400 miles round trip) I found my leather seats invaluable and one of the most comfortable car seats.

I really like my cloth seats, but being an older guy, think the lumbar support with the leather would be a plus. You younger fellas don't have to worry about this, but when I first got my 8, I was constantly hurting my back getting in the way I always entered a vehicle. Now, I first sit down in the seat facing outward, then spin my legs around. This may sound sort of sissy-like but really has helped my back as the seat is pretty low. If I had it to do over again, would probably go for the leather. May hat is off to you guys on this forum...always willing to help newcomers!

I think the original poster might have his car nearly paid off already. How did this one get brought back from the dead?

Since this thread is back from the dead I figure I might as well ask people (particularly ones that have a 1+ year old RX-8) how their leather seats are holding up. I've never owned a car with leather seats, but I've seen some really, really worn pieces of crap in my day. Is this just a byproduct of cheap materials and/or poor maintenance or is this just what happens when you have a car that sits outside all day (no garage)? Any recommendations for maintanance?

The saddle shops sell a product call Lexoil you can find details in the other forum about cleaning and such. It works good and takes care of the leathers nutritional needs. I bought some at Tractor Supply.

Man the LEATHER SEATS ARE AWESOME i have the black and red leather interior.. The only problem with them is you have to keep waxing.. Them I use it to protect it from the UV rays from the sun. Not cheap leather niether. just long as u take care of them.

Interesting, I was just going to do a search for seat comfort on the forum.. guess someone had the same idea ;-)

At 6'2, 190 lbs, I find the leather seats slightly uncomfortable. The side cushions on the upper seat push my shoulders forward and don't really let me keep a straight back. I've been contemplating the idea of looking for some sort of seat cushion/filler to go in the straight part between the cushions, so the cushion extension isn't quite as pronounced. If anyone has tried something like that I would be very interested in hearing what you did.

The seat hight adjustments are great- I usually drive with the seat all the way down, but sometimes I will raise the front a bit and keep the back lowered.
