How to convince someone the 8 is good...
So... when I was deciding if I should buy the 8 last week I caught a lot of grief from several sources. One of the largest sources of grief was from my wife who could not understand why I wanted to trade up to a smaller car.
My wife is one of these people that says, "what's the big deal? A car is a car." Just like many of you, that statement makes me gasp in horror. Anyway... When I brought the car home her attitude adjusted. Between the way it looked and the silly smile on my face, things were improving. But now to put the nail in the coffin....
Since we have a young child and I was not in the mood to wrestle an infant seat into my car my wife had not ridden in the car. For Easter we went to a friend's house down the street and I we were able to leave the youngin' with them for about half an hour.
When I pulled up to the house everyone wanted to look at it, sit in it, and probably bash me in the head and take the keys.
While out on the road I demonstrated the quickness of the car and my wife was smiling... So far so good. Now to put an end to any issues we have here. We pulled back into the neighborhood and I let her tool around in it for a few minutes.
She has the same problem the rest of us do now... She was grinning from ear to ear the WHOLE time and for some time after it got parked. We went back to the house after the "test" drive and took the mini-van back over to the friends house. When depressing the accelerator on the mini-van she had this slight look of disgust. =)
So... for anyone trying to convince someone else to let them buy this car... Let them take a ride in it or even better, give them the keys (and under your supervision) and let them go for a ride!

Uh... no. =)
I protested the buying of the mini-van but it was the only way to rescue my F-150 from the torture it was receiving from my wife.
Besides... the kid is still not big enough to put in a normal car seat. =)
PLUS! When I bought the car the dealer had lost the second set of keys and the key fob so they had to reprogram the keys for the ignition. Currently I only have one key. All I have to do is hide that from her. :D

Let a buddy drive mine last week. His daily driver is an Altima and he also has a worked 03 Corvette that does 12's in the quarter. He had a grin on his face the whole time. Some of his comments - if I didn't know the specs, I never would have known that this has low torque. I will definitely buy one of these for my next daily driver.
BTW, he was amazed at how smooth it runs and the great rotary sound. He was cruising at 80 in 4th. Also loved how he could take the high speed interstate ramps and easily control the tail end.
Another convert.

Take the good with the bad
I love my RX-8 after driving it for 3800 miles. I wouldn't trade it for anything. But in order to be totally honest, here's what I don't like about my car:
(1) The cold start potential problem
(2) Oil consumption
(3) Fuel consumption
(4) No spare tire
(5) Poor visibility
I overlook all these things because the car is so much fun and so good looking.

My wife liked the 350Z more. But after just riding on the RX-8's passanger seat for a few minutes, she felt in love with the 8. Now all I do is convinces her that her Honda Civic is a great car so she won't ask me to let her drive my 8...

RX 8 Goodness
Gentlemen(and Ladies),
Do not if consistent with this thread but less than five minutes into my test drive I knew I had to get the RX 8. The next day I jumped into my other ride 2003 Ford SVT Focus with Jackson Racing supercharger. It now felt absolutely primitive in its ride and handling-something Fred Flintstone would be driving.
How did Mazda do this? Don't know or care, just glad they did!
