How do I know which "flash" I have?
I recently got a 2006 RX8 and after reading the threads, the one topic I don't understand too well is the whole "flash" business. Is there somewhere on the engine that shows which "flash" I have? And do I need to update when a new "flash" comes out? Thanks for the help!
BTW: What does the "RX" stand for in RX8?

there should be a sticker under the hood that has the flash on it. The past few times, they haven't updated my sticker, so you never know how accurate it is

You should have the latest flash. There also may be a sticker under your hood that should note it. You can always ask your dealer as well.
Maybe you should read this to get a little more aquanted with the Rotary.

Since each "flash" was designed to make the engine/car run a little "better," the vast majority of owners want the latest one. I think some dealers automatically check and reflash when you bring your car in for anything—but you can always just ask them to do the lastest "flash," or check and see if there's a new one.
Yes, the 'R' in RX-8 stands for Rotary. And Mazda designates their non-rotary cars with an 'M' (MX-5, MX-6) and their trucks with a 'C'. (I think that's right.) Don't know what the 'X' represents.

Not sure if this applies outside north america, but there should be a sticker indicating the latest flash on the bottom of your door. Do a search, there are pics of it. You'll have to decipher the code the tech guy wrote on the sticker.
