Usually begin between the ages of 45 and 55 during the onset of menopause.

Haha, you should be able to just call a dealer and give them the vin over the phone and they will let you know free of charge. At least thats what I did.

Why would they charge you?
Golden opportunity to get a customer in and find something wrong with his/her car and try to up sell. It's the American way!

You SHOULD also have a sticker on the underside of the hood that shows your latest flash and date installed.

There are a bunch of flashes to fix a bunch of different issues. I don't think that there is a list of them all anywhere.

As cited, any Mazda dealer should be able to tell you what flash level you're currently at, since it's database entered when performed. The last flash I had was as a part of MSP-16, which upped the apex seal lubrication.

Since most modern vehicles have onboard computers to monitor and control a number of engine performance parameters, there needs to be a base 'code' (firmware) of inputs for it to draw upon. The code is stored on an EEPROM in the computer (non-volatile memory). "Flashing' the code is simply updating it (comes from the term flash memory, again EEPROM).

This is analogous to the motherboard BIOS code on your home PC/laptop.

edit: MSP-16 flash increased the oil metering flow rate: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...13-08-1925.pdf

Also check the drivers side door jam for stickers.

Mazda's service bulletin usually shows the VIN range for each reflash/recall so you probly don't need to call them even.

???

Being informed that you may need a flash is not the same thing as confirming if you have in fact had it.

I did get a "MSP16" sticker under my hood when it was performed. Plus the last time I was at the dealership they cited "you're up to date with your flashes."

Again, best way is to give a dealer a call, with your VIN, and they'l look up your flash history on their system.

I guess this thread kind of sparked my interest as well. I have a sticker on the inside of my driver's door (nothing under the hood as far as updates) that says:

9/19/06
N322-18881-R
SW-N3Z2EROEO

Those I believe the updates that were performed on that date. Anyone have any idea on what the hell those mean?

All you can view on the MazdaUSA site is maintenance items you yourself have entered (presuming you've set up an owner's account). It's not the 'real' Mazda database system.

As we've all said, just call a dealer with your VIN.

LOL My daughter used to ask me how I knew so much and I'd always tell her "at my age if I didn't know allot shame on me. By the time you're my age you'll know much more than I do now. Always leave the taperecorder (memory) on, its not like your head is going to explode."

Although that didn't work so well for Kelly on the sitcom Married with Children. One time she studied hard for a school test and lost "some essential information", like what the doorbell was.

You may find a number of stickers under the hood and on door jambs. A call to a dealer with VIN is good. Stickers may help verify.
