How do you get into the 8?

How do you get into the 8?
When I get into the 8 I need to grab onto or push off of something to get into the right driving position. The easiest thing for me to use it the center console but I'm afraid eventually I'll break it putting my weight on it to move my butt into place. I'm only 155 lbs but it feels like I'll break it eventually.
Sometimes I'll pull on the steering wheel. I'm guessing the steering wheel is attached pretty securely.
One other thing that concerns me is that with the position I have me seat in I rubb the left side bolster (cloth seats) just about everytime I get in and I don't want it to get all worn there.
I was thinking about some seat covers from Wet Okolo but they don't have one for the RX-8 yet. The seats are quite stylish and I don't want to cover them up but I also don't want to get them dirty and worn. Wet Okole makes pretty nice seat covers and if they'd make a RX-8 cover with a triangular hole at the top of the head rest so you could see the rotory accent that would be awesome.

I just slide my right foot in, then plunk my fat *** in the car and adjust as necesary. For getting out I hold onto the steering whell with my right hand and use my left on the fram and haul my *** out.
If my 265 pound *** aint breaking nothing, your 155 butt wont either :D

While I still consider myself quite young (37), I have badly abused my body over the years (and enjoyed every minute of it).
This has left me with some parts that, while still functional, do not bear stress at full extension any longer.
NO - THAT STILL WORKS JUST FINE, THANK YOU
Dirty-minded little twerps...
Therefore, I have found that while it might not appear gingerly, I have a definite method for ingress and egress in all of my vehicles.
IN -
Door open
Right foot on dead pedal
Right hand on left top of wheel
Swing in with panaché and land with butt in center of seat
Right foot over
Right hand to right side of wheel
Left hand lifts left leg into the car
Lean over, shut the door
Takes about 2.5 to 3 seconds and leaves no creases in the leather or scuffs on the plastic
OUT -
Push door completely open
Right hand on right side of wheel
Spin left and place BOTH feet on ground
Left hand on b-pillar or back door or whatever the particular car has there
Push out to fully standing

I have the same concern about rubbing the left bolster all the time when I get in the car. I have the leather seats and I'm concerned that this will wear down/damage the seat in less than a year or two. My big concern is the stearing wheel though! I have already scuffed the stearing wheel twice with my cell phone getting into the car. This leaves ridges on the left side of the steering wheel which are annoying while driving. I don't think there is a good solution to this besides buying seat covers and let them take the rubbing instead of the seats.

Unless you have the seat all the way back it more than likely you're rubbing against the left side seat bolster getting in and out. I'm going to go check out Wet Okole for some seat covers. Hopefully they can make one for the 8 that doesnt cover up the head rest rotary accent.

I don't have any problems getting in, but getting out is a mystery to me. It's probably because I've always driven tall vehicles and have lost some of the strength in my abs or something. Everytime I get out, I feel like I am sitting on the floor... It's embarrassing

Jeez, you guys. Just wait till your 50 !!
Here is a real good reason to stay in shape and take care of your little selves.
Hopefully the leather/pleather seat can take some sliding in and out.
This thread really cracked me up. Especially since my teenage son (5' 10"/180 lbs) climbed into the front passenger seat through the window the other day. I think he would have tried the sun roof too, but I disabused him of the notion (he decided he wanted to live to see 16). LOL.

This thread is a joke, or???
Ok, I just walked over to the garage to see how I do it.
The RX-8 is not low at all or narrow/ small as my friend's Celica. The Celica is more of a challenge especially since she adjusts the seat way to far forward. I'm 38, average build, 170 lbs (US lbs).
Getting in:
- open the door with left hand (darn, I hate that part since I don't like the finger prints on the car!)
- place right foot in center of floor space, close to the brake pedal
- place butt on seat
- left foot follows, placed in front of the clutch
- left hand closes door
my hands don't touch anything inside the car, especially since I cleaned it last weekend! No way! It's for your eyes only! I guess I must be some talented acrobat that I can do that without leaning onto the console or holding to the steering wheel. :-)
Getting out..
- turning upper body to the left
- opening door far enough but not so far to hit the wall or car next to me
- put left foot on floor outside
- lift butt and transfer all body weight on left leg
- right foot/ leg follows.
- close the door with the elbow to avoid the finger prints
- blowing the dust off the hood that has collected
No hand needed except on the inside door handle to open the door. It's ok to leave finger prints there ;-)
Now I need to get back to my acrobatic training, after this post I feel I could learn how to walk on my hands up the stairs.

I miss my car.... I'm starting to forget the little things such as "how I get into and out of my car". I can remember how I get out, but not in. I get out by opening the door as wide as possible, then I put my left foot out, then pivot and put my right foot out, then I use the inside door handle/armrest thing to lift myself up out of the car. I can't remember how I get in.... Argh.

I first pop the trunk with my nifty remote control and then crawl through the little ski hole that is in the middle and then i plop my *** in the back seat for a while and think about the fact that i am glad that i belong in the driver seat. Then Grab the shifter and go into adrenalized convulsions for about 5 minutes, then i start the car and go into some more spaz attacks. finally after all that buisness i put it in 1st gear and drive away feeling like a million bucks.

This thread is starting to get silly, but I too feel this is legit concern. My old Supra's side bolster was dangerously thread bare by year 3 or so.
So my technique to get in and out without rubbing the side bolster.
Getting in:
Left knee bent, right leg in as far forward as possible.
Right hand on edge of center console.
Pivot butt and back towards the seat fall / leap in control speed of decent with right hand. Half way down, with left hand catch door sill. Using both hands, supporting your body weight, lower yourself the rest of the way to the seat.
Getting out:
Left hand on door sill, right foot thrusting into the center of car, lifting butt out of the cup.
Swing left leg out while right foot continues thrusting pushing the body out.
I end up kinda leaping out of the car.
I'm still 30 and only 150 lbs so I'm limber enough to do this. More incentive to keep the weight off? (in a few months I'll be posting my 10 lbs weight saving trick to help the 8 corner better, dieting! :D )
