the carbon in the engine itself wont actually damage anything. it's when it flakes off and gets stuck somewhere it shouldn't like making an apex seal stick. if the car will start then you just run it at redline and hopefully the seal unsticks before you burn the seal. you also could carbon lock the car, where the seal gets wedge and wont move at all. i don't believe that will be a problem on the renesis like it was on older 13b engines. all side ports are harder to clog than periphrial ports. the carbon is too brittle to hurt anything in and of itself. you have to worry about what the carbon is building up on. carbon can also build up on the intake or could clog a cat. lots of carbon problems. but if you run it hard and hot every now and then, it will be fine.

The engine actually never blew. It was on its last leg to begin with (almost dead coolant seal), but in the end the cooling system let out, which caused it to overheat, etc. But, it ended up never blowing...
