The fastest I ever went in this car was 140mph (Its not a difficult struggle to reach this speed) on the open freeway. It was back when I first bought the car, and was driving through the desert towards Las Vegas. I felt she still wanted to give me a little bit more. The car felt as stable at 140mph as if I were traveling 80mph!

141 MPH on a long straightaway on a private paved road owned by a local stock car racer. It probably had a little more, but it felt stable and I ran out of road.
0-60 tested at 6.1 sec with a 4.5K RPM clutch drop. I'm sure I could hit 5.9 0-60 if I did a clutch drop of about 7K-8K, though (but, I won't do that).

Ya i was blowin by a real bonehead on a Harley who musta been upset in me in my "rice-burner" maintaining exactly 1 car length behind him as he was rippin up hwy....he topped out around 114 & finally changed lanes to allow me to pass which i did grinning the entire time. As i rocketed past him & kept accelerating thru 4 gear & shifted into 5 I realized I'd never had to shift to 5th due to near red in 4th & after thought kicked in as i was running thru 5th looked down & saw 144 mph. Immediately slowed down........3 miles later was home & proceded to have post adrenaline shakes for a couple of minutes....told wife it was nicotine withdrawl!!

Gee, this thread is really cute!
[All speeds in MPH...]
John Corbit: The back straight at Sebring (into Sunset Bend) isn't long enough for a good top speed run. I'd run out of space at 168 before needing some serious braking to make the bend onto the front straight with any decent exit speed. The front straight was only good for 150ish before leaning into turn 1 and the straight down to the old hairpin could only net about 135 where you have to scrub of over 100 mph right quick. See the website in the signature for video.
On a trip from Tampa to Summit Point, West Virginia, three of us (two other 3rd gen RX-7s) AVERAGED 120+ for a tank load. ...And I was pulling a trailer. (https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/carrying-tires-event-49099/, about 3/4 down) Between us we had 3 Valentine 1s, 3 CBs, a BearTracker, and a Winter Haven police badge.
Patiwood: If you head up 41 from 54 (Land'o'Lakes) and take a right on the Ehren Cutoff, you can find some nice sweepers and twisties. Go to 52 and take a right, then a left on Belemy Brothers Blvd. Right on 50 to Zephyrhills to watch the skydivers. It was a good day trip for my sportbike club. Bit hilly, bit twisty, very empty.
Jogumby: I certainly hope you weren't following the bike 1 car length back in your car. Even on another bike, I'd label the activity as stupid, reckless, and worth an ***-kicking.
But speaking of Harley's, heading home from the Daytona 200 down I-4 about 15 years ago on my 1991 Honda CBR1000F, I came across two HDs with bearded longhairs and their, um, "women" doing about 90. I settled in behind them (safely behind them) with one hand on the throttle and my chin in the other hand, elbow on the tank, just cruisin in 6th.
One female looks back, sees me, gets the other female's attention and bekons back. They both lean forward and scream something into the mens' ears. All four lean forward, the bikes drop a gear and make a lot of noise, and they slowly (and I mean slowly) creep up to 120. I'm still head in hand following at a safe distance.
Then one of the ladies glances back with a shocked look that my rice burner could even stay with them and gives me the finger.
So, both hands on the clips, drop to a tuck, down two gears, nail the throttle, and split the bikes at 150+ with the front wheel about 6 inches off the tarmac.
Bye bye!

3) If you ran a car off the road, the FHP would be camped at your house, and you'd be posting this from jail.

145mph on the A45 between Giessen and Hanau heading towards Franfurt. I started to notice some drag right around 140. Had to slow down because of traffic though. Still waiting for a nice clear day again to try and hit that 161 lol

Fastest I've ever been was 153 in my G35 Coupe... long straight in Montana ... fastest I've gotten the 8 to is 147... then once again ran outta straight away... I'll give it a run on a better straight away next time... yay for empty country highways =)

135, shutdown hwy right before the hurricane, only one allowed to pass through (military). 2 weeks later saw a car hit a tree doing 120. I will never do it again after seeing those kids bodies.

Errr..... so whats the point of going 220+ km/h???
My friend in his Lexus can stay at high speed all day long and enjoy the scenery while comfy in his car while I'm sweating it out in my 8 at 220+ km/h. Rather pointless going that fast if you ask me, if you are aiming for 300+ then that's making a point.

I've done 135 easily in my '94 taurus SHO 5sp. on a deserted stretch of highway on Christmas morning about 3am, I'm sure the 8 would have no trouble matching and beating that speed. The Yamaha engine was pulling hard as hell at that speed.
