How to get a profile photo down to size?

I would like to have a profile photo, but I can't figure out how to meet the size restrictions (max 100 x 100 pixels or 97.7 kb).

I've used an on-line photo "shrinker", but despite getting photos down to what appears to be an appropriate size according to the info in the "properties", they are still rejected by RX-8Club.com when I try to download them as a profile photo.

It appears that about a gazzillion people have managed to do this, so I'm obviously a techno dunce. Can someone give me some tips on how to get a pic beside my name?

i just open it with the windows picture viewer and literally make the window small, then take a screen shot and paste in paint, then crop.

I'm afraid I need a bit more spoon feeding.

So, I go to the 'Start' button and click on 'My Pictures'. Then I double click on the specific photo I want, which opens a window titled 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer'. I "make the window small" by holding the cursor over one corner and dragging the border of the window inwards. I think I'm good so far.

But how small should I make it? Then, how do I "take a screen shot" and "paste in paint"? Cropping I understand, but for the photo in question I don't think any cropping will be necessary.

You can do it with MS Paint (it's a little clumsy but it can be done) or it you have MS Office, you can use Office Picture Manager.
Also, you can try Download.com and there should be some free software you can use to manipulate pictures. Save the picture as a .jpg to reduce space.

I use Photoshop but there are probably half a dozen ways to do this on most pre-loaded computers.

If you are still stumped PM me and I'll get you to email me your photo, I'll fix it and send it back to you. Yes, part of the problem is it will go much better if you convert it to a .jpg

I really appreciate all the advice. So far the easiest thing for me to do was the suggestion to download Avatar Sizer... and it worked! Many thanks.

I notice that that my new avatar has also been inserted in all my previous posts, which were formerly avatar-less. This may confuse some readers as to what I'm blabbering about in my posts... oh well, so I look like an idiot.

As an aside, I'm amused that this thread was moved out of Multimedia/Photo Gallery and into RX-8 discussion, especially after the warning that posts in this forum should be "things that relate to RX-8". I thought my post was photo related...

congrats, you did good

Yes it's normal that your avatar will show up in all former posts, if you change it again or change your sig it will also update for each time someone pulls up a thread you have responded to. That is a dynamic thing.

open it in paint. tools stretch/skew.. keep the percents that you decrease the same.. typically i do 50-60% of original size from that of a camera.
