How long did your replacement engine last?
#26
I never thought my clutch pedal would snap. I figured you kids were just abusing yours by redlining your cars (and stomping on it) every day, lol. Then one day... SNAP. Me too.
I never thought my engine would fail. I figured you kids messed up yours with all the tinkering and modding and playing around with premixing (I still need to learn what that is lol) and things. It'd never happen to ME of course, since I just drove mine normally and followed the maintenance schedule and used the dealer for everything. And... mine failed too.
That denial thing is such a pain lol.
I know the poll isn't scientfic, and that a lot of things can vary the lifespan, but I was just fishing for some reassurance that my replacement CAN last a reasonable length of time.

So true. I'm guilty of it myself.

The second engine was driven the same way (70-80 miles a day highway), I used Castrol GTX 10W-30, changed it every 3,000 and maintained it perfectly (even premixed for a bit), did TSB's, etc. It lasted 74,000 when it then began stalling at lights. It went to the dealer and got a new motor at 96,000 miles. Why did the original last only 22k and the reman last 75k? I never got to tear apart either so who knows? Mazda does.
But, my current motor has 30,000 on it and has had all the "fixes" (SOHN, premix, BHR ignition, BHR fuel Pump, Mazmart OP kit, large Fluidyne oil cooler) and when it fails we will see just how well these "fixes" worked because I will rebuild it myself.

Original engine replaced at 13K miles with compression problems (warm start)
1st replacement (new from Japan) replaced 11K miles with coolant leak into rear rotor
2nd replacement (early rebuild) replaced 21K miles with compression problems (engine died when warm at idle)
3rd replacement (rebuild) engine going strong with 30K on it presently.

There was always a "dead spot" in the gas pedal at low rpm's.
Hard to describe; at first we thought it was a throttle sensor, but they all checked out fine.
Alot more vibration at idle (even with new motor mounts).
The engine just seemed a little off (sluggish), compared to the original.
There was even some instances off sudden jerking and bucking when accelerating; the same symptons the first engine showed when the compression was going on it.
I'm going to have the tech install the "oil catch can" on the new motor from the start.
I'll also ask if it's possible for to have the throttle body for a couple of days (hell maybe the entire air intake) so I can do a thorough cleaning on it before the new install.
