how long does changing the oil pan take?

I brought my RX-8 in Friday morning to get the new oil pan (and have a damaged rim replaced), anyway, they called me Friday that they'd need to keep it until Monday and when I just called them (Monday afternoon), they said it will be ready Tuesday.

No, not Tuesday morning. Tuesday evening.

Is that normal? The girl said something about seals need to harden or so, before I can drive it. They gave me a rental, Enterprises "Cavalier", sigh.

well i brought my 8 in this afternoon around 5 for an oil change and i asked about the pan since i found out on here that some needed to be updated. and yes, mine fell into that vin range. sooo they are keeping my baby overnight. trust me... i feel your pain *sigh*. they had to order the part and said it would be in tonight but they would like to keep my 8 until tomorrow afternoon. the service tech (david, who was great) said he will get right on it in the morning and it will take a couple of hours for the seals to dry. so hopefully i will be back in baby tomorrow after work. they rented a car from enterprise for me, too. but i got a trailblazer. im sooo glad i didnt get something like a neon.

good luck!

Hi Monique, actually they had to order my new oil pan as well, and it took 3 weeks to get that delivered.

When I brought the car Friday, the new oil pan was there and ready.

OUCH! If I were you I'd drop in on them tomorrow during my lunch hour. Wait... no... I'd go in on my way to work. You know, just to see the progress for myself. But that's just me. It helps that my office is only 5 minutes from the dealership. I wonder if they even changed your pan yet. Something sounds fishy to me. Though sometimes I'm one of those skeptical people. Especially when it comes to dealerships! I can't believe you had to go all weekend without your car. I hope you get it back tomorrow Peter! On that note, I hope I get mine back tomorrow, too! Ohhhh... I'll get mine back tomorrow and they know it, too!! Everyone at my dealership knows me now and takes pretty good care of me. So far props to Don Ducote Mazda!! Let's just hope that doesn't change now (for their sake). hehe

I'll let you know what happens tomorrow and how long it took.

ps I just read your "Am I an Idiot" thread and came back to edit this... no, don't think you're an idiot. That dealership is prob just convenient for you. I'd suggest finding a new one. Looks like the guys in Cali are filling you in on some other dealerships. Try them out! Oh and you might want to let Mazda HQ know about all those other probs you listed!
