TX How Long Does an Exhaust Lasts?

So if I buy a used exhaust from someone here I am buying a used one , ie not new
How long can I expect an exhaust to last?
Normal miles driven per year is about 12,000
If I buy used, then it will have at least 10,000 maybe up to 40,000 miles
What is the average miles a exhaust, ie muffle lasts?
I know they do burn out sooner or later.
Talking about the muffler part, the tips one can re polish i guess.

Unless you bottom out a lot or something, you should be fine. It's only passing hot gas, not some form of solid *I hope not!*

Yea at the most you might need something rewelded together, but I can't see an exhaust becoming unusable on an rx8 in the near future.

Are you talking about the glass packing?

Alot of the exhaust systems on the RX8 have baffles to reduce sound output, but I don't think alot of the nicer systems use glass packing to a large extent.

Our cars generate SOOOO much exhaust heat that a muffler than might work on a civic would equal death on a RX8 within a few short months.

Get something like a RB, Borla, Mazdaspeed, HKS, B&B, and the other known brands for this car and you should see the exhaust last the life of your car.

I have the MS dual exhaust and the only maintenance I had to do was re-weld the connections between the can and the piping - it's a common issue on the MS exhausts.

Guess I did not pose the question right/properly

I do not mean the pipes them selfs, ie the stainless stell
I mean the mufflers the inside. those do burn out do they not?
The muffler is part of the exhaust system is it not?
So does it go bad, ie burn out sooner or later and if so
then when, ie about how many miles.
You telling me mufflers do not go bad, wear out?

If the muffler burns out/goes bad, is not ur exhaust system shot?
So if so then at about how many miles?

I have seen quite a few mufflers that have been burned out with time
that is what I am asking, not the outside pipes but the inside of the muffler
after all thats what really makes/costs in an exhaust system

So what is inside the mufflers? stainless steel what?
Looking at the racing beat exhaust, by now I should be on its way to me
well maybe by the weekend or so

Unless you live in NYC or any other dense city where they like to soak the streets with salt and other harsh chemicals when it snows, you should be fine. Usually exhausts go out every 8 years or so here from corrosion.

ffffuck!
