Planning to keep mine quite a while. My oldest will turn 16 shortly after the warrenty is up. My RX-8 will probably become her first car assuming I can locate a 2010 RX-8 or suitable equivalent.
Since I broke my major car shoping rule by buying this brand-new I feel compelled to try to get at least 8 to 10 years out of it, but it's a daily driver, not a weekend car so we'll see when maintenance > new car payments. Time will tell.

I really like my car, but if I really like the new Camaro/Challenger/Supra, especially if I can get a V8 Camaro with the fuel technology that gets 30 mpg highway like they are talking about, I might trade it. Or, if I can't get a handle on these increasingly arising mystery rattles.

Only as long as I have to......Mazda and their ****** brake squeal problems that can never be fixed
You know how embarrassing it is to come to a stop in traffic in a freshly washed and waxed, beautifully shinning RX8 and have everyone look over because the brake squeal was so ****** loud.....then the next stop the same thing....again....again.....
Then take it to the dealership and have them tell you "you have the redesigned pads already" and "we have other complaints, but Mazda doesn't have a fix yet"

928 S or S4? When they came out with the 32-valver for '87 that was my favorite car. But, when I could finally afford a used one, the astronomical repair/maintenance scared me away for good.
To answer the thread, I'd love to have a rotary collection starting with my FD, RX-8 and on down the line. Don't think that when the new 7 arrives that there'll be garage space unfortunately, so the 8 will have to go . But, the '93's a keeper forever; I'll sell some organs if I'm that strapped for cash, but the car stays.

I believe the OE rotors are ventilated.....just not cross-drilled or slotted.
I got a brand new RX8 so that I wouldn't have to repair anything for a few years. I have 6,000 miles on the car!!! Even if I planned on keeping it and eventually upgrading the brakes......there is still no excuse for a brand new car to sound like a 1984 Caravan when it comes to a stop. And there's certainly no excuse for the manufacturer of that car to not have a solution.

I agree about the maintenance too - when payments are ~$6,000/year the maintenance should be ~$0/year. My 5+year-old cars have always demanded an average ~$3,000/year in maintenance with ~$0/year payments so the economies of brand-new cars don't wash.
Anyway, my RX-8 is almost to 9,000 miles and my brakes have just begun squealing. I'm hoping it's accumulated junk from the messy spring roads and they'll behave better with some thorough cleaning. If not - 2 hours to Rochester for service - then maybe look into a deal on brakes. I was able to get "lifetime brakes" on my wife's van for about the cost of two brake jobs. In the course of the 3 years since then we've had 3 sets of pads and 2 sets of rotors replaced for free.
Oh well, I've probably felt I overpaid for brakes on all my cars more than anything else. If I have to put extra money into brakes on my RX-8 at least it's a car I like instead of a car I hate. Doesn't keep me from asking, "why is it so hard to maintain brakes?" but at least I enjoy the car overall.

I'm planning on going for 200,000 miles.
Hey...ya buy a good car, one that you won't get tired of...and ya keep it a long time. Simple, eh?
If I manage to get 200K out of my 8, it will have been an OUTSTANDING value (and a fun ride).

with the rate i'm going, i'm gonna rack up 100k miles about the same time i pay off my car note in about 4 more years... lol
and it does feel like i'm beginning to see me driving this car for the long haul... think of this way, it'll be at least 4 years before i have to go through the hassle of dealing with car dealers, that's 4 years of peace of mind lol
