I got a brand new RX8 so that I wouldn't have to repair anything for a few years. I have 6,000 miles on the car!!! Even if I planned on keeping it and eventually upgrading the brakes......there is still no excuse for a brand new car to sound like a 1984 Caravan when it comes to a stop. And there's certainly no excuse for the manufacturer of that car to not have a solution.

a 1984 Caravan or a brand new Ferrari Maranello. Was driving on the highway next to one and his brakes made the same exact noise. Last time I checked, Ferrari doesn't make POS cars...

you do realize brake squeal pretty much has NOTHING to do with performance right... it's merely a 'comfort' issue.......
you should hear some of the high performance brake pads that get driven on street when they are cold, squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

I changed my mind......I'm gonna keep my A/T 8 for a long time. It may be slow off the line but I think it's one of the best looking cars ever. If I can find some way to make it faster I would be alot happier. Does anyone know of any reliable upgrades for the A/T?? I need the power much more than you M/T guys do. My buddy does engine swaps, that's always a possibility. I love the feeling of driving this car even though it lacks a little performance.

I'm only gonna trade in if they come out with a faster M/T than the current one, I'm not blown away by it compared to my A/T, not to offend any M/T owners. I need more torque, something that the M/T definetly doesn't offer. I hope they release an SC'd or Turbo/Twin Turbo M/T Rx-8, then I'll trade in.

well - i bought my 8 in november of 05' (with 4 miles) and Im already sitting close to 20K (drove a LOT for work) but thats pretty much done.
The fact that the car will be paid off within 30 days till makes me want to hold onto it as LONG as possible. I got the extended warrenty so I wanna go that long and be free of a car note for a few years. The onlyl thing ive thought about is when i pay it off, save up some money and do a few other things i have planned (laser eye surgery) after that would come a supercharger hopefully (if Hymee's Ever comes out!)

I'm hoping my 8 will last 4 more years as a regular driver. By then I should have it, and the majority of a new car for the wife, paid off and the 8 can become my fun weekend "toy." I'm also hoping by then the aftermarket goodies will be more readily available...to make the toy MORE fun!

New Ferrari Maranello??? Last time I checked the last year of the Maranello was 2002. I can believe that someone driving a 2002 Ferrari has brake squeal. What I am complaining about is a 2005 RX8 with 6,000 miles having brake squeal and Mazda not having a solution. I have no doubt that 15K miles or 2 years from now I would have brake squeal requiring a brake pad/rotor change.
Sorry for going off topic with my issue.

Lets see...I plan on keepin my 8 for a very long time. Shes already come pretty far with changes ive made so far though i dont really plan on any motor changes anytime soon because once the car is paid off im droppin a three rotor turbo motor in the beast. I love the car to much to ever think about gettin rid of it. Not to mention when its three rotor turbo there definitly wont be to many people out there that can run with that.

I'm fickle. I kept mine for 2.5 years; 21,000 miles, then traded it in on an Evo last month.
It was a fantastic car but I wanted something a little raspier. And got it. In another 2 or 3 years, I'll probably want something more civilized again.

Sold my baby a month ago and replaced her with a quattro turbo A4. I luv the Audi, but really miss the 8.
Damn gas mileage!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14 MPG just was not sexy.
In a few years, I plan on buying a used 8 as a weekend driver. It just didn't work as a daily car for me.
The thing that upsets me is that my friends think I got rid of the 8 b/c I didn't like it. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Love the engine, sexy curves, performance, and practicality (four seats). Downside, i.e. gas / oil consumption, is acceptable. Given no significant malfunctions... will likely keep it >8 yrs.

I'll have to decide once my lease is up. I love the car but I'll be missing our Miata by then. The Miata will probably be traded in for a MS6 for my wife this fall. But I also hate to give up the yellow. I need more money for one of each.
