How many Miles per TANK do you get?
#2
I average ~200 miles on a full tank since I immediately go to the gas station when the fuel light comes on. Right now I have a quarter of a tank left, but I have gone 226 miles on this tank. This is because I've spent ~150 miles driving in 6th gear on the freeways. But on average, I do mostly city driving, and get ~200 miles on a full tank. Once the fuel light comes on, I fill up ~13 gallons of fuel, leaving me with a little over 2 gallons of fuel to get to a gas station.

I get around 220-230miles per tank when light turns on. This is about 75% highway driving, and MPG is around 19-20mpg, with a best of 21mpg highway. I can no longer complain about the miles per tank on rx8, because I used the woman's 04 Xterra to go to work, and I got a lousy 17mpg highway driving 70mph. That thing is horrific, and it doesn't seem like 20mpg is even possible. Now my next trip to work on rx8 will seem like I have a excellent gas mileage car.

- miles: 230-240
- gallons (US): 13-14
- driving cycle: 80-90% city/10-20% highway
- driving style: lots of A/C and spirited driving
- fuel used: 93 octane

I usually fill up at around 250 miles, sometimes 225, once in a blue moon 260. I get 19-10 mpg. I wish I could get 300 on a tank, as I drive 100 miles a day and that extra 50 miles on a tank means I can wait an extra day and always fill up on the home side of my commute where gas is significantly cheaper. I get about the same milegae in my Isuzu Rodeo (manual tranny) but I do get a little over 300 miles a tank since the tank is larger.

Average Tank Range : 267 miles
That's in the last 35 fill-ups or 9085 miles.
Lowest 173.8 (Autocross Weekend)
Highest 316.3 (Highway Trip)
With a standard deviation of 25.028, I'm pretty consistent.

I get around 180-200 miles a tank and fill up when the warning light comes on. There is 3,100 miles on the 8. I do almost 100% city driving. I have not noticed any difference between 93 or 87 octane. The best mpg I got when driving 100% highway which gave me 300 miles with one gallon left in the tank. The car has not been flashed but has a build date of Feb. 2004.

I get a pretty consistant 220 miles on a tank
I normally drive about 80% city 20% highway with 91 octane
My best tank so far was about 270 miles
...but that was a roadtrip with about 80% of the time spent in 6th gear

My daily trip to work is: out of my neighborhood, ~4.5 miles of street (heavily police patroled) with no lights (drive about 58 or so), to the freeway (speed limit 65) for about 6 miles (at ~73 mph). This is more than likely more most gas efficient driving.
Outside of going back and forth to work. I get on it when ever I get the chance. I take her to 9K about everytime I drive her. I'm no feather foot, I assure you.

I usually don't fill up before 290-310 miles. I have stretched it to 332 before, but that was probably an oddity. I'm going on a road trip to Pittsburgh in a few weeks, and I'll be interested to see how I do with all Interstate miles.
Currently my daily commute is about 80% highway. I drive 98 miles per day. Lots of A/C, and I don't hesitate to redline it when necessary, or just for fun, but the majority of the commute is spent in 6th gear.
I use 93 octane Exxon gas.
By the way, in my experience, you can't get much more than 15.4 gallons in the RX-8. I ran out of gas, so I know. When the light comes on, it means business.

Sorry, this is a pet peeve, but as an engineer it really is annoying. A "tank" is NOT a standard unit of measure. Unless you run your tank bone dry each time before you refuel, there are no consistent results. Asking someone how many miles they get per "tank" is useless, because everbody doesn't refuel at exactly the same point on the fuel gauge. Even then, the fuel gauges are not accurate enough to use as a measurement anyway!
Figure out how much fuel you typically add when filling. This varies depending on YOU - some people wait for the warning light (warning - also not a reliable measure car to car), some people wait for a certain mark on the gauge, etc. THEN if you want to figure out the range for YOU and YOUR refueling preferences, multiply YOUR typical fill by the mpg you get. If you want to know how that compares with other people, then multiply YOUR average fill in gallons by THEIR MPG.
(/rant )

Gordon

I get about 200 miles on a tank but I normally fill up before the light comes on. If I wait for the low gas light to come on I get about 220 miles for a tank. Mostly city driving (10% Highway 90% city). I use 93 Octane. I run the A/C constantly when I am in the car.

180 city to 320 highway. Driving in the 'zone' (3000-4000 rpm) has upped the mpg from a low of 14 to an average of 18, and even up to 22 mpg highway. 91 octane, MT.
By the way, bought some 91 octane at a military station the other day, and for a whole tank, it felt like I didn't have ANY power!
