how many miles on your rx8
I am considering purchasing an rx8. The rotary engine has me a bit concerned regarding how many miles you can expect out of one before rebuild, etc.. I am not knocking the rotary engine at all I am just ignorant to the lifespan of such engine. I know since it is a relatively new auto that probably not that many miles have been put on them.
Please post how many miles you have on your rx8 and any major repairs that had to be done.
Thank You.

I've got 9,500 mi. and have had ZERO major problems. I agree with the above post, there are quite a few people here who drive ALOT and are relatively problem free. A rotary engine is very reliable if the proper care is taken. But, the same could be said with almost any engine nowadays... good luck!!

I have about 7800 on mine, and have only had one problem - a pinhole leak in an oil cooler hose early on. Mazda has since redesigned the part. Other than that the car has been trouble-free. :D

My Titanium RX8 is 15 months old and I have 68,000 miles on mine. No major problems yet (knock on wood). Only annoyance is the rattling in the doors when playing the stereo. I travel 200 miles a day to work and back and average 70 mph maintaining around 4,000 rpm. So I guess you could say the rotary is pretty reliable so far.

I've got 16K on mine in 16 months and have not had any major problems or annoyances. This is my 7th rotary and proper care can get you 250k+ and enjoy the revs at the same time. Yes the Rotary is very new in comparison and there are not a lot of manufacturers developing it. Everyone I buy I love more but, they are not for everyone and I understand that. There are lots of nice cars out there and mine is Rotary!

low mileage
I have only 3300 miles on mine....will be a year old in March. No problems yet. My New Year resolution is to drive it more. My MPG still kinda sucks but seems to be getting better with more miles.

I have 11k miles on my RX-8 which was purchased July 2004. Though 2 of those months, it was just sitting in the body shop 'cuz some knucklehead rear-ended me.

I bought my car in February 2004 and have since put only 6,000 miles on the odometer. I admit, I dont really drive it as often as I would like...but that just means when I do it makes it that more special! Yeah but I havn't had any problems at all yet. I flooded it one time though just because I was being ignorant.

Only 1400 miles on my 2005. Had about 4000 on my 2004 before it was totaled by an old lady in a Grand Marquis.
My previous rotary was a 1993 RX-7 (see .sig) which went about 95,000 before requiring first rebuild (minor water intrusion). All wear parts were very strong. That's on a (modified) forced induction rotary with less tolerant peripheral port exhaust.
Even with tons of track time and 370Hp down (18 psi), the engine was solid and strong when I sold it with 170,000 miles on it (85 on the rebuild).
The Renesis should see less stress (though it's pulling a heavier car) and the side ports are less prone to nicking seals.

I have an '85 RX7 that has 289,000 miles, and would still be going strong if my human child hadn't run it out of water and toasted her. Needless to say, he does NOT get the keys to my '05 RX8!!!! (Not without me riding shotgun, anyway). My first '79 RX7 had over 200K as well when I traded her for a station wagon (Dammm kids again)
