how many miles on your rx8
#27
I got mine on Sept 19th and I have 7300 miles on it. No mechanical issues what so ever. I burn quart of oil every 5-6K miles which seems normal and the mpg is around 17 (I do lots of city driving). Only issue is the headlights are starting to fog a little on the inside but I am working on replacing with the HID's.

My 8 has 4200 miles. First owner purchased it in June 2004....I bought it with 3800 miles in December 2004. First owner flooded it once and it's been trouble-free ever since.

Bought mine used on Sept 11th with 15,000 miles on it. Now it has a little over 21,000 miles on it and as far as I know (checked on service record of the car with previous owner) it has never flooded, etc.

Mine is nearly a year old with 24,000miles on it--and N/A rotaries are good for at lest 200,000miles. It'll outlast most piston engines. My FD had 78,000miles on the clock without needing a rebuild.

i have had my RX-8 for over a year now and it only has 24 miles on it. i'm afraid to drive it anywhere because a WRX might smoke me and i can't drive it in the snow unless i get winter tires. so i drive a beater car and keep her in the garage safe and sound. :D

August '03, 31,500 miles. Reverse has gotten a bit difficult to get into in the last couple months, but nothing major. No other problems.

Jbaseball mentioned well over 200K on a older RX7 and was then run out of water. That is the main issue on the rotary. If a water pump or hose starts leaking it can be death to the rotary. The small engine makes a lot of heat and will be damaged by over heat. Same with too low oil as the oil cools the rotors. A city driver can run real low on oil without any problem, but one trip at speed and the rotor will thermal expand to a point that it damages the side housings.
Also with age the oil seals will wear to a point that the oil consumption will suddenly go up. This is normally the first sign of age. If the owner has gotten into a habit of only checking his oil ever ~5 fill ups, he can miss this sudden increase in oil consumption. That is why Mazda added the low oil warning that most cars do not have.
The apex and other gass seals will wear and this will be most noticable with a higher cranking speed when starting (unless the starter is going bad). Unless running in real dirty air with no air cleaner or some other problem, on the RX7, this usually happened after the oil consumption increase.
I expect the RX8 to have a the same age issues unless it is abused or modified.
