Buy 5....

You will need five but you will have a little left over, for top-ups.

3.5L is the total amount the engine takes including filter.

Don't know how much that is in quarts though.

Just had mine worked on by Star Mazda on the paperwork they are claiming 4 quarts of oil. Might want to get 5 just to be safe.

That depends! If you're talking the total oil capacity of the Renesis (with North-American spec two oil coolers), then the total amount the engine holds is about 7 litres. If you're talking the volume drained for an oil change, then the total amount the engine takes is ~4 litres. Draining the oil via the drain plug only gets just over half the total oil capacity of the oil system, and that's what Mazda considers a normal oil change.

Gordon

Fanman,

How's the service at Star Mazda? Am considering that dealer for my oil change, would really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Thanks Gordon, I was quoting the owners manual for what Mazda Australia consider a regular oil change for our cars.

We only get one oil cooler unfortunately

Just did mine yesterday...4.5 qts...made the "mistake" of driving down to the parts store to get an oil fiter wrench (5 miles)...DAMN the oil, filter and the aluminum lines running along the firewall behind the filter were WARM!!! Much warmer than my previous vehicle after the same distance...

Regards, Art
