Proud new Copper Red Shinka owner here. Just wanted to confirm some facts.

First Shinka Run: 2005?
# of Shinka's Produced in 2005?
# of Shinka's Produced in 2006?
# of Copper Red Produced?

Just trying to get a gauge on what I own here. The dealer tells you one thing of course but I want the truth!!!

The dealer told me there were 1000 "Shinka's" made this year...i typically feel like they don't know ****, but hey, it's a starting point for the thread.

BTW, Congrats, i LOVE the Copper Red...i have a Black Shinka...dope car!

Also, did they try and give you only 6 months sirius subscription when you called to activate? Seems to be a trend with the 2006 Shinka's. I had to argue to get the full year.

 

The Dealertold me there were 1200 black cherry 05's, I have seen online that there are actually 2150... Not 100% sure though...

 

Do a search. You can even find out what number you are (for the Black Cherry Shinkas that is).

Good info on the Sirius. Haven't activated but will make sure to push for the 1 year.

Congrats on your Black Shinka. Dope car is right. All RX-8's are dope and I like the added touches of uniqueness of the Shinka. 1000 this year huh? Would love to confirm that since I believe the extended the Shinka this year to White also on top of the Copper Red so 500 of each would be low but even more valuable if so? Weird my dealer had 2 Red and 1 white. That's alot for one dealer to have I imagine.

Well there it is:

2005: 2150 (Black Cherry, etc.)
2006: 1500 (Copper Red, Black, and White)

It seems that they may have already built-out all of the shinka's for the year!

The Mazdausa Rep i talked to said he saw a lot of them in the system, and that he felt most of them had probably already been made for the year...that was a month ago.

Again, not gospel, just one man's opinion...but based on inventory i see online, it looks like they ship out most of the shinka's with the inital supply of rx8's to sit in the showrooms, then sell the normal RX8's for the most part.

The dealer i bought from had 4 shinka's and said they were getting a pair of copper red's in a few weeks, and that was their allowment of them for the year.

 

They will most likely make more if demand dictates it since it's more an option package this year than a true special edition.

 

I am supposed to get my white Shinka in the next few weeks.

Of course, since I live in Iowa, I'll probably be the last one shipped

 

If I remember correctly, that 2150 figure for the '05 Shinka's is fictitious. I think that was how many they originally planned to make, but ultimately made only like 1300 or something. Can't remember the details, but I read about it somewhere on here, so a search should find it.

 

the rumor was that they only got 1300 made before the fire. i've NEVER seen one outside a showroom. *shrug*

 

Total of 1,357 Black Cherry Shinkas were actually made: 513 automatic and 844 manual. Mine was #1339, built 3/31/05, the last day of production, and just the 18th from the end of the run!

(I saved the list as a pdf file if anyone wants it.)

 

Considering there are still '05 Shinkas sitting in showrooms I don't think Mazda missed out on many sales.

 

Yeah, in the thread where the above info was pulled, makes the point that 1300 is 10% of us production...shinka was a planned limited edition, but more than the shinka being limited edition, the RX8 is a limited public interest car. HA.

Still driving my 2005 Shinka. Still gets put in car shows and gets looks around town. I love how this black cherry paint looks in the sun.

 

Sorry, but no. I owned mine 13+ years and loved it. Still miss it. Driving a ‘19 Miata now (my fourth!).

But still miss my beloved Black Cherry Mica RX-8, lol.
