^^Whatever^^never mind apparently someone deleted the post I was replying to.

So anyway, a couple of weeks after I got my 8 I was testing it out on some twisty back roads It was probably around 32-35 degrees out. This was before I realized the stock tires are **** in cold weather. I took a curve going a little faster than I should and the back end started to slide, but traction control kicked in and that combined with the car's balanced handling allowed me to maintain control of the car.

A similar thing happened to me in my Civic a couple of years before that and long story short I ended up in a ditch.

A great many of these fall under the catagory of.. how many times has your 8 saved you from your poor driving habits.

Really... driving 65mph next to stopped traffic?

I didn't say anything about stopping, just slow down a bit.

Is it a good idea to to go 130mph with traffic going 65mph to the right of you?

I was actually going to say something similar... there's obviously a reason traffic was stopped next to him... so doing 65 next to them was asking for trouble

Whoops. If that was my post about drifting past a Viper and giving a cop a hi-five I think I erased it by accident. It's a shame too because I spent a decent bit of time on it and I thought it was some of my best writing.

It's not exactly a moment of 'my rx8 saving my life', but I digress...

I was doing about 75 on Highway 190 here and as I approaching a large semi truck, one of the tires blew off the wheel and right into my lane. I quickly switched into the median and then back into my lane missing the tire chunk. Never lost traction, and in hindsight, was rather enjoyable whipping my car around like that.

I cant actually think of a specific time its saved me from an accident but I know there has been some instances were I had to get hard on the breaks to avoid stupidness infront of me..

However that racoon I swerved to miss at about 50mph was probably pretty pleased with my decision to buy an Rx8

Last night.

I was driving home from a play on the interstate when there were impromptu work trucks in the left lane. I shifted into the right lane and slowed to about 40 to pass the work trucks and lights signalling them being there. With all the lights and having to check traffic to lane change, I didn't particularly cotton on to the car that was stopped right begind the work truck. He pulled out hard right in front of me, and I used the fabulous RX8 handling to swerve right around him. There was no time to brake, but the tight steering and no body roll made what would otherwise have been a stomache in the throat experience seem pretty easy.

I can also remember about ten days after I bought the car in 2003 driving on the same interstate (it is known to the insurance industry as one of the highest accident roads in the entire US), and some guy swerved in front of and then out of and then back in front of a guy three cars up from me. He slammed on the brakes and skidded to a stop. The two people in front of me hit him and each other, I hit the brakes, engaged the ABS and stopped as hard as I could. The car came to an almost stop about 6 feet from the car in front of me so I let up a bit and got within a couple of feet of her to let the car behind me have more room. It still clipped me, but I think that the kid driving it was stoned. However, the tremendous ABS stopping power gave me options that no other car I know would have, and what should have been a major accident ended up just damaging my rear bumper cover.

I am sure that there are plenty of other times that I have used brakes and steering to save me and the car, but they don't come to mind as easily as these two. Personally, I think that both the steering and ABS are world class!

Braking as well!
Decided to last minute take a left turn from the right lane... Quickly look in front to see if no cars are coming. Look at the mirror, shoulder check, quickly get into the left lane; and started to make the left turn. Look in front and holy cow a car was coming toward us around the curve! They hit the brakes, I hit the brakes so hard the ABS was activating and gf slammed into the back of my seat. Close call

How often has my 8 saved my life?

At least every weekend since I got it a year and a half ago.

I would have died of motorist's BOREDOM dozens of times if I was still driving my Explorer all the time!

i think we can all agree we appreciate how many times this car has saved our lives...

all this comes from my near crash experience today, i was driving 65mph on a long turning lane, while 3 lanes next to me were completely stopped, so what do you know a guy pulls out of his lane like 10 feet ahead of me and expects me to stop in time. somehow the beautiful abs stopped my car centemeters from his rear bumper.. heart beating , i kissed my stearing wheel and thanked god for my rx8.
That -exact- thing happened to me. I wanted to freaking murder the guy who pulled out.

well, I don't own an 8 but have witnessed people do the same thing that the OP went through IN THE RAIN!!!

The 8 just tip-toed around the retard as my jaw dropped since any other car would have plowed right into the inattentive driver.

Gotta love the 8. It handles amazingly and it brakes just as well.

You can drive like a grandpa all day long and still get screwed by an idiot that thinks they can drive. Just be attentive.

Ok i guess, that not all that happen. ok imma just just post how everything what happed. ok
Ok so what happen i was coming back from my grandma's birthday party, when i was driving home i was almost about to be their 3 minutes or so. And some guy or girl dont know followed me in my neighborhood, he followed me so i got scared and turned off my headlights and tail light and day time running lights so he or she couldnt find me, then she or he turned his or hers off, but the dumbass didnt know that the day time running lights were on, so i was getting away and as soon as i turned mine back on, i saw him or her turned back on so i drove as fast as i could going through gears going 60mph in the neighborhood. I know im not supposed to,! any ways he or she kept following me, and then BOOM! turned off all my lights and speeding through sub-divisions, getting a little sideways happy, but not reall just a little bit. Finally i lost him or her. but now im scared he or she is gonna retrace my steps and try to find my car and mess with it so for tonight im on steakout with my paintball gun, yeah i know! not a real gun, hopefully i can scare him or her away and follow him or her get his or her license plate number and call the cops on him or her. Im sorry guys if i pulled a stupid stunt but i got scared and my heart was bumpin and adreneline kicked in, so i was basically freaking out!

I usually rev up to redline and pop a flame for the tailgaters. When they see their bumpers light up they back off pretty quick.

You're still retarded for driving like that yokoboy, now you added prejudiced bastard to your resume.

The car has awesome brakes. Just today, coming off work, roads were wet.. I'm going about 50 in a 45 (empty roads cruising).. I approach an intersection, light is green, I hear some sirens.. Then all of a sudden, I see 2 fire rescue trucks coming from the right intersection. It's weird because it's a slanted intersection so you can't really see anything at night time.. All I saw was the lights and since I had my windows down, heard them getting closer.. By that time, I was a little too late.. But yes, they pass right through the intersection w/o warning and I apply my brakes hard and I hear and feel my tires sliding and I stop right in front of the incoming trucks.

I don't know if it classifies as performance but.. My brakes sure performed well, even though they squeal like a motha F.. Oh and.. Stock tires are crap..
