how many times has your rx8' performance saved your life?

I was coming home from work at 3 a.m. and some jack as big rig....(dont we all hate them)....somehow ran over a cardboard box...whatever was in there..(seemed like junk and paper) flew up and scattered in the air....first i dodged right.....then left.....and then i had to speed up from one of the things coming down on my roof.......F** a-hole.... so yeah...My RX8's handling and DSC definetely saved my life.

My 8's fantastic brakes have saved me from some possible collisions a few times when someone pulled out in front of me or ran a stop light.
There is one thing though; if you're going to fully use the 8's incredible brakes in an emergency situation, you'd better first be aware of what type vehicle is behind you and how close they're following. Porsche's, Corvette's, Ferrari's, BMW's, etc., great. Mom's mini-van, 4x4 truck, semi, etc., look out!

I've owned my rx8 for just under 2 months now. Everyday im so thankful i bought it.
There have been countless times on US-202 and I-95 where another car will jump into my lane and slam on their brakes being only a few feet from me. I <3 down shifting & my brakes.

I've dodged several deer, and one really dumb sport bike rider driving down the middle of a narrow mountain road. I swear to god if one of those morons ever scratches the paint on my cage with their organ doner machines I'll be pissed. I'm sure it will be a pain to clean their entrails out of my oil coolers too. I know driving down the middle of the road is fun, but I'm already over to the side as far as I can be on these roads. It could kill you to be straddling the middle lane.

During a road trip...a wreck two cars in front of me...it was a blowout with smoke, swerving, smashing and car parts flying everywhere as people headed for the shoulders. It's all still a bit blurry, but I saw some daylight ahead and hit the accelerator and slalomed through the debris and spinning cars. I can''t believe that nothing hit me.
That was one sobering trip.

same, well sorta..
I also ride motorcycles, and from my riding experiences, I've adopted the " Ride like your invisible " or in other words.. be very paranoid, and treat everybody else on the road like they are out to get you, because your worth 20 points

the superior braking performance and the super great handling of my 8 saved me, my 3 friends, my girl friend, my ex-girl, my ex ex-girl friend, 2 cats, 1 kitten, 3 raccoons, 1 squirrel, 3 stupid bikers, and a packed car of old nuns.

It definitely saved me once just a few weeks after I got it.
I was crossing a large intersection (University and Alafaya, for anyone who knows the UCF area) doing about 50 and I was more than halfway across the intersection. Suddenly this guy in an SUV decides to pull out and NOT MOVE - okay, he was going about 10, but he certainly wasn't accelerating. I about put the brakes through the floorboard and came to a stop so close to his bumper I thought I hit him. After I gathered myself up again, I stood on my horn for a good 15 seconds...and got flipped off! WTF!?

I was traveling on the 95north. I dont really condone racing, but I had this g35 on my *** that wouldn't leave me alone. So I made the rash decision to down shift, and hit the gas. As this idiotic race began we were in a pretty long straight. I got the car up to about 130mph. (note: This was 4am their wasn't anyone barely on the road) So now a left turn is coming up about 110d to the left. I was on the inside and decided to go out and then back in to acheive maximum exit speed. When I went out and then turn back in I hit a massive amount gravel; the car turned completely side ways. Then this is the one day I was driving with the DCS and TCS on. witch helped me get the car straight. I think i could have done it on my owen, because I'm no stranger to drifting, but at those speeds it a different story.

Well I live in S. Fla so enough said. We get every bad driver from every where else.
I really like that my 8 has the capabilities that it does to avoid these nuts. Not to mention I have great driving abilities and anticipate what every car will do wrong.

Once - it truly did save my life thanks to the exceptional handling. I live in SW Florida, there are more senior citizens than anywhere else. Many of these seniors have disorders and should not be driving.
The story: I was driving up State Rd 64 at about ~55mph, the speed limit is 45, but I was traveling at the same speed as everyone else. Up ahead I saw a car (green saturn) on the right hand side about to enter the traffic flow, it was noticeable because the angle was wrong to enter the flow of traffic. I was in the the left hand lane (the road at this point has three east bound lanes). The saturn driver inches in heading straight across the lanes! The car in in the right most lane slams on his brakes, tires squealing. The idiot in the saturn panics and hits the gas straight across the lanes. At this point the saturn and I are going to connect, luckily there is a turn lane to my left, so I made a hard left, avoided the saturn bumper then a hard right to avoid the turn lane curb. All four of my tires let out a squawk, but the car never varied from where I was pointing it.
No other car I've ever owned would have properly executed that maneuver. I love my 8.

Best motorcycle rule!
[QUOTE=J wind;2821422]same, well sorta..
I also ride motorcycles, and from my riding experiences, I've adopted the " Ride like your invisible "
That is rule number one. Rule number 2 is they are all out to get you. Rule 3 is the worst possible maneuverer in a given situation is what the cage driver will do.
Road riding since 1983!!! Two crashes, one my fault (65 around a 15mph turn, in 1984). The second was a combo, me going too fast and lazy construction crews not shoveling the huge clumps of dirt off the road in 1986.

My RX8 saved my life today!
I was headed home on a 2 lane highway to help my dad and grandpa work on a loader. I'm following a semi but he's about 4-5 car lengths in front of me. It's pretty common to meet the sheriff or highway patrol on this road so I'm trying to keep it at 65 which is 5 over the limit. I notice a car in the oncoming lane. As soon as he passes the semi the vehicle behind him tries to pass, and pulls into my lane! At this point all I see is the front grill of this pickup truck coming at me at 120-130mph (assuming he was driving 65). I flick the steering wheel to the right and on to the shoulder just in time to miss him and then left back onto the highway. It all happened so quickly I didn't even have time to take my foot off the gas.
I seriously doubt my old 92 ford escort gt could have handled that maneuver, so thanks to my 8 I still don't know what a head on collision at highway speeds is like.

Jeez, that made me nervous just reading it. I'm glad no one was hurt. People are just oblivious and I totally agree with the motorcycle rule mentioned before about driving like your invisible. Sometimes it seems that no matter what vehicle you are driving that people just don't pay attention to you.

I'm glad that you are still alive. I had something happen like that once when I was in college. I turned onto a street coming home from my girlfriend's house in the early morning, and there was a car coming up wrong side of the street at about 80 MPH with its lights off. I floored my car and rammed it up onto the sidewalk to avoid the obviously wasted moron. Still, it isn't as bad as what you experienced.

A Close Encounter
My wife and I took the RX-8 for a drive to walk Cape Cod canal. On the way there, on the highway was an older Prelude cruising along and hanging with us. I pass him in the left lane. Just after that we come over the hill and I see no less than 50 yards ahead a large object in my lane. I'm passed the Lude but I need to get ahead further so I drop it in 3rd, make my way into the right lane.
At the same time I notice that in the right lane is a 3 foot long piece of bent exhaust piping or such and something smaller to the left of it.
In a split second I aimed straight for the bent metal and cut through the debris. No lie, this all happened within 4-5 seconds. My wife grabbed her seat and said, "Holy ****!" I could not believe how well the car handled.
After I pass the mess, I quickly looked into rear view, the Lude hit the pipe head on and it went under his car. He took an exit not long after that. Crazy!

My 8 saved me from a "far away girl" from a distance the girl look hot, while i drove my 8 closer, she wasnt hot looking any more. so i pressed on the gas,and the 8 took off. while the girl was looking inside the car wondering why i didnt stop.
i looked in my rear view mirror, seen a car stop and picked her up. i thnk she was a prostitute.
