I know I wouldnt mind, make the car rarer and possibly wanted more, maybe bring up the resale value or at least hold the value better

I wouldn't mind seeing it discontinued just to shut the people up that spread rumors about a Mazdaspeed version.

It would be sad if they did not come out with a replacement of some sort.

I voted yes. I like the fact that I rarely see one on the roads (saw a VR yesterday in summersville, WV - first one in a long time) and discontinuing it would probably make it worth a little more some day waaaaaaaaaaaay in the future (my nephew will own it by then).

And, I really hate to see a Mazdaspeed version come along, because ....

Not that I would really want one, but I probably couldn't afford it anyway

And,

It will lower the value (even more) of the "slow" ones that we all own now.

Lastly, I have a Yellow one and if they make them many more model years, they'll probably add yellow back to the list.

the first gen RX-8 lifecycle should be coming to an end soon, guess the question is if Mazduh will release a 2nd gen...

I haven't seen an 8 (except mine) in the last 3 days.. I guess discontinuing the car would probably make it even harder to spot. And it would really make some people turn heads, like the 3rd gen. RX-7.. Which I never see, but amazes me when I do..

Can't forget the value.. >> So yeh..

I voted yes and i think it would be okay with me as this car is rare as it is, I would only speculate that there might be more interest or value in the car if it was discontinued. From a design perspective, i really think the 8 has it down, i dont' know how and if Mazda re does the 8, will it have the same look and effect.

But i voted yes because it would only make the 8 look more rare and semi-exotic, like what car is that? sort of thing.

I know that ive seen more FD's than i do rx-8's at times, maybe i shouldve made it clearer by asking if you guys would prefer our 8 was discontinued and a 2nd gen was released im not saying discontinued all together. And personally i dont care about a mazdaspeed version, i'm happy with mine, i love it and it was very affordable, im sure a mazdaspeed would be way overpriced.

Well my '03 (04 MY) floormats only have the little 'checkbox squares' for production dates through 2008 on the bottom, so clearly it will be finished after that. (proof Mazda has had this decided since the car's release, of course!)

Hehe.

I've got mine, so as long as it stays in good condition [or parts don't get all expensive] I'll be happy.

No, why would I wish to deprive someone of the pleasure I have by owning an 8?

Besides, more 8's available may equate to greater availability of 3rd party products and replacement parts years down the road. Wouldn't it be a shame if FI kits were no longer developed because there wasn't a large enough market (for the 8 due to it's cancellation) to justify R&D costs?

my .02 anyways

I believe that if the 8's popularity went up there would be R&D for new kits regardless if it was discontinued or not.

I actually am undecided on this because of the reason you stated. I'd like the aftermarket to take a real liking to this car but I have doubts that it will happen until there are more on the road. At the same time I would like to see the 8's value avoid dropping too far kind of like the cars like the last generations of the RX-7 and Supra which seemed to not really have dropped in value at all in the last few years. But of course they are discontinued!

to my knowledge, the manufacturer is only obligated to continue providing parts/ support for a vehicle 10 years from when it's officially decommissioned from production.

Doesn't make sense. Here's why: by discontinue, you mean release a 2nd gen. The same people who are voting yes for discontinue want to keep it uncommon, but a 2nd gen means more power and a 2 seater--that immediately contradicts the uncommon side. Such a vehicle would sell like the 350Z, and the 350Z is the next Mustang as it is in terms of capturing that demographic's numbers.
