How much...

Hello everyone. I was wondering how much you would think fixing the damage that was done to my 8 today by a hit and run driver.

I was in the bank for 5 minutes this morning and an older model red Dodge Ram that was parked next to me hit my car and drove off. I am quite upset and understand things like this happen, but it still sucks when you really love your car.

I'm pretty sure I know who it was, waiting to get the police report to be sure.

Alright, start guestimating!

Maybe the bank had surveillance cameras?

Sorry to hear about the hit and run.

It happened to me once. Not the same spot but close enough.

Have a body shop look at it. Not sure about your area but it cost me like 500 bux to fix.

Im still trying to look for that fuxker, Im pretty sure he lives around the area .... if I see him, all of his tyres's sidewall will have some holes in them.

coming from somebody that does bodywork all day, that is going to be a costly repair...... especially because the damage is on the rear quarter.......... I wish you lived in St. Louis, I could save you a ton. P.s. whoever fixes it needs to be sure to replace the entire rear quarter( lots of welding is required, make sure they are experienced at this because some shops just suck at getting this type of repair to look good.)

it should cost you your deductible. Let your insurance pay for most of it.

The bank said that they didn't have cameras facing the parking spaces, only the front door. (this i find hard to believe)

I really don't understand why people can't be a little more responsible about things. I mean, I'm 23, but if I did something like that I would have the ***** enough to stay around or at least make attempts to contact the owner of the other vehicle. I hate how a good many people don't seem to respect other people's property.

CJ, I appreciate the thought. I just have a strange feeling that the insurance company's going to want to take the easy way out (a little bondo and pull out the bottom of the fender). That isn't fair considering that 1) this is my baby 2) it's my DD & 3) EVERYONE knows how **** I am about my car being perfect. I'm also afraid I won't have any choice on who works on the car.

My deductable is pretty flippin' high so that I could keep my insurance cost down. I still have full coverage even after 3 years of driving the car, but 2k out of pocket's going to be a b*tch when I'm in the middle of trying to find a new place to live, pay deposits, first/last months rent, and working on a slight job change.

It's also going to be interesting to see wha kind of rental I get....

Thanks for your input guys. Anything else?

Lol...that is EXACTLY the same spot my hit and run was. The damage is all localized in the exact same spot. I don't know how else they would fix it without just popping it out and bondoing it since that part of the fender is a part of your car. I'll post pics if I have time but your damage looks worse than mine but in reality, should be the same amount of work to repair. my repair cost about $1000 to repair and repaint and I paid it out of pocket because I didn't want to bother with insurance (500 deduct) and having my rates go up for my whole family. haha, I'm 23 too.

Just noticed in your description that your car is WB too.... It doesn't look wb in the pic.

Whoa Pilgram. First thing is you take your car to be fixed at the shop YOU WANT.
Insurance can not dictate where you take your car to be repaired. So find yourself some hi-end body shop, take your car there and say "This is where it's getting fixed".
Just use your insurance, it should fall under comprehensive and won't affect your rate. This was not your fault. Just talk to your Ins. Aganet about it. They won't bite you (to hard). Anyway your not making a claim your discussing your options.
Just call your agent. The way I look at it with what I pay in premiums, that I've alreaady paid for this to be fixed. A couple of times.

slightly off topic but they probably don't have cameras pointed to the outside. either because of cost which they want to cut down and they really have no need to view the parking lot or for liability. if someone presumes they are safe in the parking lot because they see a camera and something happens but the camera wasn't working, was a dummy dome, or just didn't get the right shot, there are too many sue-happy people in this world that would want to make it the bank's fault.

okay, now back to your regularly scheduled program.

+1............You dictate where you want the car fixed, not the insurance company. Make sure you get it done right...................even if you wanna pay for it! Don't settle, I know you got bills, but you won't be happy. I say...............get the police involved, find the @sshole and make him pay! You know where he banks! Stake it out if you have to, then call the police. Don't approach them on your own!

And.....why the hell didn't the quote function work on this reply????????????

I appreciate the input everyone. I did make a police report. I do not want them to bondo the car in any manner, because that's a cheap fix to me. Unfortunately I don't know of any high-end body shops around the areas I live and work.

I haven't noticed a change in the way the car drives, but I probably will take to get it checked sometime soon (tires aren't cheap). Believe me, if I see the truck before the police do I'm going to check it out.

This car is my baby an I won't settle for less than perfection. Whenever the car is in the shop I'm planning on ordering some fun stuff for it that way I can enjoy it that much more when I get her back.

Thanks again everyone for the input.

In Moscow the fixing of this damage would costed as 200-500 with paint and all works...All depends of masters...Most of not-expensive works by cars in Moscow do armenians and other ex-soviet citizens...Moscovitians will take more 500 bucks...
So I can calculate some work...
300 gramms of paint, laque and all kind of this things are 100 bucks.
Work of fixing and repairing is 200 bucks.
Construction/reconstruction(tail lamp and wheel) is 50 bucks.
Total:350 bucks...
So i suppose that mexicans or others can make in US for the same price

Maybe I watch way too many episodes of Law & Order

If the cameras are pointed toward the doors they should have a picture of the person that drove the truck. I assume that this is a bank only parking lot. You were not in the bank long, the person that hit your car probably came out of the bank while you were inside.

Once you have identified all the people that came out of the bank during that period of time, you can have the bank cross reference the pictures to the cameras on the inside and identify the time s/he was at a teller's window or something. How many poeple could there have been, not many I bet! After that, a few name checks and a cross reference to the DMV for a red truck and wham this person is toast!!!!

In reality the police & bank will probably get a good laugh out of this plan, but a little dective work will get this person nailed big time.

So go out there and sell your charm just likeDectives Briscoe & Green. Well Briscoe is dead now!!! But anyhow, this person is good as caught and what they did is wrong. They deserve to get caught.

Thanks for listening to my Law & Order cr*p, I hope you find them!!!

just had the exact same damage repaired on mine... exact same spot... same side, size and everything (my neighbor side swiped me). figure on about $600-$800 for a quality job. Much less if you go to maaco or a place like that. I wouldnt though cuz if you skimp on the repair, it will end up looking as bad as if you had just left the dents there in the first place (paint not matching, sheet metal work not being right, etc.) just got mine back on tuesday and you cant even tell it was ever in an accident.

It definately pays to do your research on bodyshops. I would recommend going to a place that does higher end custom work and not just repairs. chances are they'll have techs that are better trained and more capable of matching the oem condition. the shop i went to specialized in doing custom, and i mean CUSTOM, paintwork on modified cars and bikes.

sorry about your luck.
