Well, I'm not really sure if it's true, I've just seen it mentioned, eg, here:

I've asked myself the same question. There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer and it's really pointless to ask that question here because the first answers you get are, "use the search button", "search is your friend" or "this has been discussed a million times"............................................ ...

I believe that's the maximum vehicle weight meaning the weight of the car and it's maximum load capacity. It should be much higher than any curb weight listed in this thread.

That would be the *load* weight, and I believe is 800 lbs.

Yes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gross_v..._weight_rating

Folks are still confused this day and age, thinking the sticker is telling you what the curb weight is. It's why so many of the old-times talk about 5000 lb vehicles when their actual curb weights were around 3500-3800 lbs. Believe me, I hear all kinds of stupidity when they talk to me about the GTO.

A few of us at work drove our cars up on the scales. We weighed with the driver. I weigh about 200 Lbs on any given day and probably was the heaviest of the drivers. I don't recall everyone's weights exactly but this may give a relative idea.

My RX8 - 2005 GS M6 no spare 3/4 tank fuel - 3091
2005/6 (not sure) 350Z AT Coupe - 3400 & change
Mitsu Eclipse - high 3300's - driver is probably 140 lbs
Infiniti G35 - mid 3600's

I can't say the scale is accurate, but it is repeatable.

For what it's worth, I get the worst gas mileage on the highway at 20/21.
The 350Z gets 21/22, the automatic doesn't help.
The Eclipse and Ininiti both get about 23/25, but I also notice I sometimes pass these guys on the way to work. I drive 75-85, they drive 70-80.

Sounds right.

Everyone uses "curbweight" out of magazines, but may not realize that's the weight of the car with all fluids and a full tank of gas without the driver. The RX8 has a 15.9 gallon tank, and gasoline weights about 6.25 lbs/gallon... that's almost a 100 lbs in fuel.

If you go here (PDF), the specs from Mazda say that the curb weight of a 6-speed manual 2008 RX-8 is 3053lbs. An automatic transmission adds 30lbs.

thats exactly what I was hoping for somebody taking there car out and getting it weighed I don't trust curb weights cause I had a v6 eclipse and the weight ratings said it was around 3100 many people don't know those cars have cast iron engines makes them pig heavy. Ever since I got rid of that car and moved to an mr2 spyder(2200pds) I've become obsessed with weight

I plan to go to the dump and have my car weighed. It is free if you don't "dump" anything!

Where did you see that an Eclipse GT is 3100 lbs? It's 3500 lbs from every source I've ever seen.

Seems to me, if you chose to trust Uncle Floyd at Floyd's Used Cars and Tractor Parts instead of doing a simple Google search, that's your deal.

Read the thread. Feel free to edit your post later

And it's spelled "placard", but you got the root word in there though.

I like the concept of having a placard giving the current weight of the car, but how does it know how does it adjust for the number of passengers and amount of fuel?

Going to the dump and not dumping anything seems like a fun thing to do. Really must mess with the operators mind as I doubt they get many sightseers at the dump.

Actually I went the the xfer station this afternoon twice during our local bulky cleanup day. My 2003 Explorer weighs 5020 lbs or 5040 lbs. with two people aboard. Got 22 mpg two weeks ago on 560 mile trip over eight mountain passes but only got 18 mpg two weeks before on the same trip with two inches of snow on the ground.

Road and track lists a test weight of 3180 lbs on their original road test (3000 lb curb). I've seen 3053 lbs (MT) for the curb weight every where and considering the 8's power/torque ratings and performance figures, this can't be too far off.
