I have read the negative posts about a quart per 1000 km but what is normal oil consuption?
My RX-8 has just over 18900 km (11,500 mi) and I do not seem to be burning much at all.
BTW
I have seen 11.4 litres/100 km Hwy @ 125 km/h (US 21 MPG)
City and hwy combined 13.3 litres/100 km (US 18 MPG)

Heh, on my older Mazda Protege, I'm burning about a quart and a half every 4000 miles ![Frown](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Bad seals, I reckon.
I wont be surprised having to add oil frequently when I get my RX-8

I check the oil every saturday morning with my morning coffee (I have a little love ritual with the car - check the oil, check the tires, dust the engine bay, dust the interior, the either hand wash in the drive, or head off to the car wash for a pro job). About every third check it seems like the oil level has moved off the "full" line - I then add a 3 ounce "shot" of oil into the engine at that point, using an oil filling syringe like you'd use to fill a differential housing. Keeps everything very neat and clean this way. Except the syringe which is always an oily mess! Over a period between oil changes I use about a quart or just a bit more. I change every 3000 like religion.

Mine only has 338 miles on it, so far I have added 4 ounces when it had 250 miles on it last weekend. Based on that theory mine would use 16 ounces/thousand miles or 1qt every 2k, which is how often I plan to change the oil. Of course I also have not had the tach over 6k yet, so who knows? I'll shut up now :p

Average for me is about 1/2 a quart per 1,500 miles; oil consumption really is going to depend on the RPM's that you normally run the higher the number the more oil will be consumed.

Oil consumption trends?
Is there any correlation between total miles and oil consumption?
How about driving style vs. oil consumption? Do you burn more at the track?
Has anyone tracked consumption over time?

usually about 600 to 800 miles per quart
but i did spend 2 quarts on about 80 miles at the dragon :D. This car eats oil and shoots flames when its pushed to the limit and kept there for a while.

Oil burn
I just learned that I went through 1/2 quart after 1001 miles from last oil change. So that works out to about 1.5 Quarts in 3000 miles? Assuming I drive the same! ;P Sounds pretty close to all the other posts!
