How to pull out the stock stereo???
Ok..so i ordered a system for my car online, and got it in. Me and a buddy were tryin to get out my stereo for over an hour, and it just wouldnt come out! Does anyone know how to? Or is there a trick to it? We found directions online and went by them, but still no luck. I would just take it to Best Buy or somewhere like that, but they're gonna charge about $200. Soo if anyone knows of anywhere to take it, or anyone that'd do it for less let me know! thanks.

Theres a trick. Theres a bolt you have to remove that you can only reach by dropping the panel underneath the steering wheel and reaching up there with a long socket wrench. Theres a DIY in the interior/audio section of the forum. You should probably memorize the stickies in that section before you begin tearing your system down. It could save you from considerable headaches.

just got finished (30 minutes ago) putting in an ipod adapter and had to remove the stereo. when your up under the steering column you will look to your left and see two bolts right next to eachother...right behind that metal bar is where that bolt is. good luck

like i said before ppl, i did SEARCH and found the directions online, but that didnt help. we undid all of the bolts, and one side of the stereo would come out, the other wouldnt budge. soo anyway i just decided to take it to an audio place, and had them install everything. they didnt even have to pull out the radio? odd.

What did you install?!
If you didnt change the headunit than all you needed was a line out converter that splices into your rear speaker.......
Now Im confused, it took me like 3 hours and a 12 pack of beer to install mine...

haha.."shinka" they didnt have to pull out my radio unit at all..renesis is correct, im assuming they just spliced into the wires in the rear speakers then? It works well and sounds good. Renesis i like your setup alot! Is that a 10 or 12? I just have 2 tens. i had trouble fitting the box into my trunk, had to remove a piece of plastic to get it in. And also when i turn on my key, my subs come on real quick, like "errrr" for a split second, which is odd but w/e!

that "err" in the beginning could mean you aren't grounded properly. I had a powered sub in a previous car of mine that did that. turned out the ground wire was bad. Might want to check it. if the wire is good, check to amke sure the ground point is tight and is indeed a true ground point... for instance, i've seen people put ground wire kits in their engine bay and they've run some of the ground wires to radiator... BAD spot to ground because there are rubber gromits between the radiator and chassis making it not a "true" ground point.

It is a 10, and I also have another 10 in the trunk as well. My old system (2 10 audiobahns and Kenwood amp) used to make that noise. Then when I bought my new system ( all JL ) it stopped. I didnt change the ground or wiring or anything, just got kinda lucky I guess.
Just for ***** and giggles, I attached a couple pics of my setup.

EDIT: for the OP, I found a pic on my computer that shows the line out converter. This is what you use to connect your stereo, this doesnt involve going behind the head unit, incase you were wondering how they installed it.
