how to register a right hand drive FD
#4
in California, your car has to have the correct crash provisions similar in that of a US car, exhaust gas regulator (I'm not too sure on how this would apply to the rotary), proper documentation (that this car was purchased "legally" from a country and you paid the tariffs to bring it over) and spend a week over at a CARB referree-ing station. I hope this helps.

i heard its mass expensive
about 21000 dolars for a GTR conversion
they hvae to install all sorts of ****
OBD II (which is mad expensive to install)
the do things down to seatbelts...
so =(
I velieve there are FD imported before into US... or else you have to supply crash data... like actally crash a car and supply then data... haha

Exactly, it depends on the year of the FD and whether or not you have to conform to OBD I or OBD II configurations.
If you have to conform to OBD II configuration you may just want to look into purchasing a FD that is already state side and converting it over from parts or a jspec front clip. This would be a lot cheeper solution.

x28, don't qoute MotorRex prices. Thats what it costs for a GTR because Skylines have never been brought up except by them.
This guys best bet to get it over here legally is to get some sort of documentation from Mazda saying that the car has the exact same type of impact and crash profile as a LHD. That way he might only have to spend a few grand to replace the Windshield with DOT approved stuff, and also make sure it has 5 mile per hour impact bumpers, and meets current emissions.
The reason the MotoRip prices are so friggin high, besides the fact their @ssholes, is that they had to crash 3 of each Skyline.

importable
the crash tests have been done on the right hand drive FD rx7's
they are importable
you will have to get safety glass, etc, done before you can register it. It is a pain. might as well wait till you return and buy one here.
there is a list out there of japanese spec cars that you can directly import. Done by.. customs?
I found out the hard way that the nissan 300zx right hand drive was not.
and also it depends on the age of the car. after so many years, you can import it, as well.
sorry I don't have the details, it has been many years since I looked into all of these things.
